Due to its original usage in scattered isolated regions where communication is limited to the local area, the Hakka language has developed numerous variants or dialects, spoken in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, and Guizhou provinces, including Hainan island, Singapore and Taiwan.

The Miao live mainly in southern China, in the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hainan, Guangdong, Hubei, and elsewhere in China.

In southern China, people speaking Kam – Tai ( Zhuang – Dong ) languages are mainly found in Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Guangdong, and Hainan.

There are now at least six branches of the Wen family in the provinces of Jiangxi, Hunan, Hainan, Guangdong, Fujian, and in Hong Kong and overseas locations.

Gan-speaking populations are also found in Fujian, southern Anhui and Hubei provinces, and linguistic enclaves are found in Taiwan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hainan, Guangdong, Fujian and non-Gan speaking Jiangxi.

Its niche is forests on mountain slopes and valleys at altitudes of 100-1500 m. It is native to Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Zhejiang.

The Paracel Islands, also called Xisha Islands () in Chinese and Hoàng Sa Islands ( Quần đảo Hoàng Sa ) in Vietnamese, is a group of islands whose ownership is disputed by China, Vietnam and Taiwan, however is currently under the administration of Hainan Province within the People's Republic of China.

( Note: the PRC also claims Quemoy, Wuchiu and Matsu as part of its Fujian Province, and the South China Sea Islands part of its Guangdong and Hainan provinces.

For centuries Hainan Island was part of Guangdong Province, but in 1988 this resource-rich tropical island became part of the newly created Hainan Province ( 海南省, Hǎinán Shěng ).

Hainan Province is the largest Special Economic Zone laid out by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in the late 1980s.

There are a total of eight major cities and ten counties in Hainan Province.

At the time of the Song Dynasty ( 980-1279 ), Hainan became part of Guangxi Province, and for the first time large numbers of Han Chinese arrived, settling mostly in the north.

During the mid-1980s, when Hainan Island was still part of the Guangdong Province, a fourteen-month episode of marketing zeal by Hainan Special District Administrator Lei Yu put Hainan's pursuit of provincial status under a cloud.

A report from the Department of Land, Environment and Resources of Hainan Province states that 200 species are near extinction, with 6 species, such as Maytenus hainanensis and Sciaphila tenella already extinct.

* The Lingao people in Hainan Province of China speak a Tai – Kadai language called Be or Lincheng, although the ethnicity of the Lingao traces back to the Han nationality.

In China, Tai – Kadai languages are mainly distributed in a radial area from the western edge of Yunnan Province to Guangdong and Hainan Provinces.

Circuits still existed as high-level, though not top-level, divisions of the Republic of China, such as Qiongya Circuit ( now Hainan Province ).

Parts of China's northernmost province Heilongjiang has a subarctic climate ; its southernmost part, Hainan Island ( an island away from mainland China ), has a tropical climate.

The diversity of the Tai – Kadai languages in southeastern China, especially in Guizhou and Hainan, suggests that this is close to their homeland.

* 1098: the Dongpo Academy of Hainan, China is built in honor of the Song Dynasty Chinese official and poet Su Shi, who was exiled there for criticizing reforms of the New Policies Group.

After four more years, 1950 saw the cessation of major military hostilities — with the newly founded People's Republic of China controlling mainland China ( including Hainan ), and the Republic of China's jurisdiction being restricted to Taiwan, Penghu, Quemoy, Matsu and several outlying islands.
