In 2001, the Marine Corps authorized the creation of a new badge, the Combatant Diver Insignia, attesting to the wearer's closed-circuit rebreather and reconnaissance combat diver training ; the gold-colored Combatant Diver Insignia depicts a wetsuit hood, low-profile diving mask, and chest-mounted rebreather.

The Diving Medical Officer and the Diving Medical Technician insignia are awarded to naval medical personnel qualified as a diver and as medical technicians, the Master Diver Insignia resemble the diving medical insignias but are decorated with a caduceus ; the Diving Medical Officer Insignia is gold in color while the enlisted Diving Medical Technician Insignia is silver.

Obersturmbannführer Rudolf Höss was overall commandant of the Auschwitz complex from May 1940 – November 1943 ; Obersturmbannführer Arthur Liebehenschel from November 1943 – May 1944 ; and Sturmbannführer Richard Baer from May 1944 – January 1945.

In contrast to the black-uniformed Allgemeine SS ( the political wing of the SS ), the Waffen-SS ( the military wing ) evolved into a second German army aside the Wehrmacht ( the regular national armed forces ) and operating in tandem with them ; especially with the Heer ( German Army ).

Wolfgang Schneider, an instructor at the German Bundeswehr tank school and historian, provides a new perspective to the propaganda campaign ; he states that the Waffen-SS did not have an " experienced tank arm " when compared to the army ’ s panzer divisions.

However, within the Waffen-SS, the rank of SS-Gruppenführer was equivalent to a Generalleutnant and a SS-Obergruppenführer came to be considered the equivalent of a General ; holders were titled in full SS-Obergruppenführer und General der Waffen-SS.

The SS-VT was renamed the " Waffen-SS " in a speech made by Adolf Hitler in July 1940 ; on 1 August Himmler established the Kommandoamt der Waffen-SS ( Waffen-SS Command Office ) within the new SS-Führungshauptamt ( FHA ) under Gruppenführer Hans Jüttner.
