Its folklore was brought there mainly by Polish settlers from the Lesser Poland region further north and partly by Transylvanian settlers in the centuries during their migrations.

He sanctioned a code of laws for Great and Lesser Poland, which gained for him the title of " the Polish Justinian " and founded the University of Kraków which is the oldest Polish university, although his death temporarily stalled the university's development ( which is why it is today called the " Jagiellonian " rather than " Casimirian " University ).

Lesser Poland ( also Little Poland, Polish Małopolska, Latin Polonia Minor ) is one of the historical regions of Poland ; its capital in the city Kraków.

In the late Middle Ages, Lesser Poland gradually became the center of Polish statehood, with Kraków being the capital of the country from mid-11th century until 1596.

Lesser Poland lies in the upper confluence of the Vistula river and covers a large upland, including the Świętokrzyskie Mountains with Polish Jura further west, Lesser Polish Upland, Sandomierz Basin, and Lublin Upland.

Currently, the region is divided between Polish voivodeships – Lesser Poland Voivodeship ( whole ), Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship ( whole ), Silesian Voivodeship ( eastern half ), Subcarpathian Voivodeship ( western part ), Masovian Voivodeship ( southern part ), Łódź Voivodeship ( southeastern corner ), and Lublin Voivodeship ( western part ).

The same procedure was used in naming these two Polish provinces – the " older " one, the cradle of Polish statehood, was called Greater Poland, while her " younger sister ", which became part of Poland a few years later, was called Lesser Poland.

Lesser Poland, or Polonia Minor, appeared for the first time in historical documents in 1493, in the Statutes of Piotrków, during the reign of King Jan Olbracht, to distinguish this province from the cradle of the Polish state, Greater Poland ( Polonia Maior ).

In the first years of Polish statehood, southern Lesser Poland was inhabited by the Slavic tribe of Vistulans, with two major centers in Kraków and Wiślica.

Unlike other Polish provinces, especially Silesia, Lesser Poland did not undergo further fragmentation, and in early 14th century became the core of the reunited nation ( together with Greater Poland ).

Małopolska Voivodeship or Małopolska Province ( in Polish, województwo małopolskie ), also known as Lesser Poland Voivodeship, is a voivodeship ( province ), in southern Poland.

The province's name recalls the traditional name of a historic Polish region, Lesser Poland, or in Polish: Małopolska.

Current Lesser Poland Voivodeship, however, covers only small part of the broader ancient Małopolska region which, together with Greater Poland ( Wielkopolska ) and Silesia ( Śląsk ), formed the early medieval Polish state.

Most of the Lesser Antilles were divided between the English, French and Dutch.

Cacique (; ; feminine form: cacica ), also cassique in archaic English, is a title derived from the Taíno word for the pre-Columbian chiefs or leaders of tribes in the Bahamas, Greater Antilles, and the northern Lesser Antilles.

The name translated into English literally means " Little Side ", though it is frequently referred to as " Lesser Town ", " Lesser Quarter ", or " Lesser Side ".

Translated from Welsh into English, Llanfairfechan means " The Little ( or Lesser ) Church of St. Mary ".
