Rabbi Yedidiah Tiah Weil ( 1721 – 1805 ), a Prague resident, who described the creation of golems, including those created by Rabbi Avigdor Kara of Prague, did not mention the Maharal, and Rabbi Meir Perels ' biography of the Maharal published in 1718 does not mention a golem.

The Mishnah Berurah of Rabbi Yisroel Meir ha-Kohen, ( the " Chofetz Chaim ", Poland, 1838 – 1933 ) is a commentary on the " Orach Chayim " section of the Shulchan Aruch, discussing the application of each Halakha in light of all subsequent Acharonic decisions.

Founded by Rabbi Meir Kahane in the early 1970s, and following his Jewish nationalist ideology ( subsequently dubbed Kahanism ), the party entered the Knesset in 1984 after several electoral failures.

The Talmud records a tradition that unattributed statements of the law represent the views of Rabbi Meir ( Sanhedrin 86a ), which supports the theory ( recorded by Rav Sherira Gaon in his famous Iggeret ) that he was the author of an earlier collection.

For this reason, the few passages that actually say " this is the view of Rabbi Meir " represent cases where the author intended to present Rabbi Meir's view as a " minority opinion " not representing the accepted law.

One theory is that the present Mishnah was based on an earlier collection by Rabbi Meir.

It is possible that Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Meir established the divisions and order of subjects in the Mishnah, but this would make them the authors of a school curriculum rather than of a book.

One of the most important Ashkenazic Rabbanim of the past century was Rabbi Meir Kagan or the Hafetz Haim.

At a young age, he went to study at the Kelm Talmud Torah under Rabbi Simcha Zissel Ziv, " the Alter of Kelm.

# Grand Rabbi Simchah Bunim Alter ( April 6, 1898 – August 6, 1992 ), also known as the Lev Simcha.

Only son of Rabbi Simcha Bunim.

His father Simcha was the son of Rabbi Nachman of Horodenka ( Gorodenka ), one of the Baal Shem Tov's disciples, after whom Rebbe Nachman was named.

Prominent recent authorities who have written commentaries on the work include Rabbis Meir Simcha of Dvinsk ( Ohr Somayach ), Chaim Soloveitchik ( Chiddushei Rabbeinu Chaim ), Yitzchok Isaac Krasilschikov ( Tevunah ), Isser Zalman Meltzer ( Even HaEzel ) and, more recently, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson ( Hadran al HaRambam ), Elazar Shach ( Avi Ezri ) and Rabbi Yosef Kapach.

Having received semicha at 17, he continued his studies under Rabbi Simcha Bunim Schreiber ( the Shevet Sofer, grandson of the Chatam Sofer ).

His father, Reuven Dov Dessler, was a disciple of one of the main leaders of the Mussar movement, Rabbi Simcha Zissel Ziv, best known as the Alter ( Elder ) of Kelm.

Rabbi Meir Simcha ( as well as the Rogatchover Gaon, the Gerer Rebbe, Rabbi Moshe Shmuel Glasner of Klausenburg, the Dor Revi ' i, and Rabbi Dr Yissachar Dov Ritter of Rotterdam ) was one of the prominent rabbis who discovered that the work was a very clever forgery, and denounced it as such.

One of his most prominent students and a close friend, Rabbi Yisrael Avraham Abba Krieger, adopted his name since Rabbi Meir Simcha had no surviving children, carrying the full name Yisrael Avraham Abba Meir Simcha Krieger.

In the late 1970s several baal teshuva yeshivas under Haredi Judaism auspices were founded and chose to honor the memory of Rabbi Meir Simcha of Dvinsk by calling themselves by his pen name for his work " Ohr Somayach ".

Both he and his elder brother Simcha ( d. 1812 ) studied under Rabbi Aryeh Leib Gunzberg the author of the Shaagas Aryeh, who was then rabbi of Volozhin, and afterward under Rabbi Raphael ha-Kohen ( the author of the Toras Yekusiel ), later of Hamburg.

Finkelstein authored a number of books, including Tradition in the Making, Beliefs and Practices of Judaism, Pre-Maccabean Documents in the Passover Haggadah, Abot of Rabbi Nathan, ( a three volume series on The Pharisees ), and Akiba: Scholar, Saint and Martyr.

Or Torah has appeared in an authoritative, annotated edition with introduction, commentaries, comprehensive cross-references and detailed indices, authored by Rabbi Jacob Immanuel Schochet ( Brooklyn NY 2006 ).

In Pardes Rimonim, Moses ben Jacob Cordovero ( Ramak ) mentions a minority opinion that Rabbi Akiva authored it, and takes it to mean Abraham wrote it and Akiva redacted it to its current form.

The Mishneh Torah (, " Repetition of the Torah ") subtitled Sefer Yad HaHazaka ( ספר יד החזקה " Book of the Strong Hand ,") is a code of Jewish religious law ( Halakha ) authored by Maimonides ( Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, also known as RaMBaM or " Rambam "), one of history's foremost rabbis.

Rabbi Epstein authored the Levush Mordechai, which contains his chiddushim, or novellae, on the entire Talmud.

Sefer HaYashar, (, the Book of the Upright ) is a famous treatise on Jewish ritual authored by Rabbenu Tam, ( Rabbi Jacob ben Meir, 1100 – 1171 ).

According to tradition, Onkelos authored his Targum as an exposition of the " official " interpretation of the pshat ( or basic meaning ) of the Torah, as received by Rabbi Eliezer.

The works on the Mishneh Torah and first five books of the Hebrew Bible which Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik authored were titled Beis HaLevi ( Hebrew for " House of the Levites ").

Rabbi Danzig authored several important works, but he is especially known for Chayei Adam and Chochmas Adam, his works of halacha covering the laws of the Shulchan Aruch dealing with everyday life.

He was followed by his son Rabbi Yoseph Dovid, who was followed by his son Rabbi Mordechai ( he authored a book called Gedulas Mordechai ), He was followed by his son Rabbi Shimon Shloima ( he authored a book called Shekel Hakodesh ), he was followed by his son Rabbi Alter Yoseph Dovid who perished together with his whole family during The Holocaust.

Despite there being little evidence to suggest that the Japanese had ever contemplated a Jewish state or a Jewish autonomous region, Rabbi Marvin Tokayer and Mary Swartz authored a book called The Fugu Plan in 1979.
