Karl Georg Eberhard Schöngarth ( 22 April 1903 – 16 May 1946 ) was a German Nazi, appointed SS-Brigadeführer und Generalmajor der Polizei ( Brigadier General ) on Himmler ’ s orders in 1943.

Schöngarth was born in Leipzig, Saxony.

During the time Schöngarth was stationed in Kraków, he formed several Einsatzgruppen ( Special Action Groups ) in Warsaw, Radom, and Lublin, with the intention of perpetrating massacres.

Schöngarth was captured by the allies at the end of the war.

In the 2001 HBO film Conspiracy Schöngarth was played by Peter Sullivan.

The direct decision maker concerning the massacre was the commander of the Sicherheitspolizei ( Befehlshaber der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD-BdS ) in Krakau District Generalgouvernement, Brigadeführer Karl Eberhard Schöngarth.

The relief unit, called Kommando Bialystok, was sent in by SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer Eberhard Schöngarth on orders from the Reich Main Security Office, due to reports of Soviet guerrilla activity in the area with Jews being of course immediately suspected of helping them out.

According to an eyewitness the executions were made by an Einsatzgruppen unit ( Einsatzkommando zur besonderen Verwendung ) under the command of SS-Brigadeführer Karl Eberhard Schöngarth with the participation of Ukrainian translators, who were dressed in German uniforms.

Schöngarth attended the Wannsee Conference on 20 January 1942, along with Dr. Rudolf Lange ( Einsatzgruppen A ) who had also participated in the Holocaust.

The following Gestapo officers also participated: Heinz Heim ( Chief of Staff Schöngarth ), Hans Krüger, Walter Kutschmann, Kurt Stawizki, and Felix Landau.

And in England, after the Restoration, the body of Cromwell was disinterred and hanged at Tyburn.

For these crimes he was sentenced to be hanged in public on Friday, December 2, 1859.

On December 2, 1859, John Brown was hanged at Charles Town, Virginia.
