Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest was a 2011 short animated film collaboration with 10-year-old Chinese-American Perry S. Chen, with storyboard and character design by Bill Plympton, directed by Kevin Sean Michaels and produced by Dr. Zhu Shen and Dr. Jud Newborn, Holocaust historian.

The Agrarians believed that Chinese society should be modeled around that of the early sage king Shen Nong, a folk hero which was portrayed in Chinese literature as " working in the fields, along with everyone else, and consulting with everyone else when any decision had to be reached.

There were many great encyclopedists throughout Chinese history, including the scientist and statesman Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ) with his Dream Pool Essays of 1088, the statesman, inventor, and agronomist Wang Zhen ( active 1290 – 1333 ) with his Nong Shu of 1313, and the written Tiangong Kaiwu of Song Yingxing ( 1587 – 1666 ), the latter of whom was termed the " Diderot of China " by British historian Joseph Needham.

In China, the polymath Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ) formulated a hypothesis for the process of land formation: based on his observation of fossil animal shells in a geological stratum in a mountain hundreds of miles from the ocean, he inferred that the land was formed by erosion of the mountains and by deposition of silt.

( in the Book of the Devil Valley Master ), A main contributor to this field was Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ), a polymath scientist and statesman who was the first to describe the magnetic-needle compass used for navigation, as well as discovering the concept of true north.

In optics, Shen Kuo independently developed a camera obscura.

After the discovery marine fossils in the Taihang Mountains ( hundreds of miles from the Pacific Ocean ), Shen Kuo devised a theory of land formation, or geomorphology.

" The ancient Chinese scientist Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ) was the first person to write of the magnetic needle compass and that it improved the accuracy of navigation by employing the astronomical concept of true north ( Dream Pool Essays, AD 1088 ), and by the 12th century the Chinese were known to use the lodestone compass for navigation.

The " old style " verse ( gushi ) is less formally strict than the jintishi, or regulated verse, which, despite the name " new style " verse actually had its theoretical basis laid as far back to Shen Yue, in the 5th or 6th century, although not considered to have reached its full development until the time of Chen Zi ' ang ( 661-702 ) A good example of a poet known for his gushi poems is Li Bai.

Pu Songling brought the short story form to a new level in his Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, published in the mid-18th century, and Shen Fu demonstrated the charm of the informal memoir in Six Chapters of a Floating Life, written in the early 19th century but published only in 1877.

The Shi Shen astronomy ( 石申天文, Shi Shen tienwen ) is attributed to Shi Shen, and the Astronomic star observation ( 天文星占, Tianwen xingzhan ) to Gan De.

A star catalogue is featured in one of the chapters of the late 2nd-century-BC history work Records of the Grand Historian by Sima Qian ( 145-86 BC ) and contains the " schools " of Shi Shen and Gan De's work ( i. e. the different constellations they allegedly focused on for astrological purposes ).

In the East, one of the earliest recorded pharmacopoeias was written by Shen Nung, Emperor of China ( c. 3000 BC ).

The most popular of the k-opt methods are 3-opt, and these were introduced by Shen Lin of Bell Labs in 1965.

Shen Lin and Brian Kernighan first published their method in 1972, and it was the most reliable heuristic for solving travelling salesman problems for nearly two decades.

The earliest person to hypothesize climate change may have been the medieval Chinese scientist Shen Kuo ( 1031 – 1095 ).

* 1031-1095 — The Chinese naturalist, Shen Kuo, uses evidence of marine fossils found in the Taihang Mountains to infer geological processes caused shifting of seashores over time, and uses petrified bamboos found underground in Yan ' an, to argue for gradual climate change.
