The Indian government established the " Central Council for Research in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy ” in 1969 as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

It is the Western headquarters of the Siddha Yoga organisation.

In the Hindu philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism ( Hindu tantra ), siddha also refers to a Siddha Guru who can by way of Shaktipat initiate disciples into Yoga.

In May 1982, Swami Muktananda installed Ms. Shetty ( now known as Gurumayi Chidvilasananda or Gurumayi ) and her brother Subhash Shetty ( now known as Mahamandaleshwar Nityananda ) as co-Gurus and spiritual leaders of Siddha Yoga.

Swami Chidvilasananda continued in her appointed role and has been the sole spiritual leader of Siddha Yoga since then.

In 1996 former devotees started a website entitled ' Leaving Siddha Yoga ' to express their grievances against Siddha Yoga.

" There are two main types of Siddha Yoga chants: Nama Sankirtana ( lyrical chanting of Sanskrit mantras, typically the names of God ), and Swadhyaya ( the chanting of longer Sanskrit scriptural texts ).

Siddha Yoga meditation, or the practice of turning the attention inward, involves silently focusing the attention on a mantra and on the flow of breath.

The work of the organization ( which involves the maintenance of Siddha Yoga ashrams and meditation centers, as well as the design and production of meditation programs, courses, retreats, and publications ) is carried out by the work of " sevites ," Siddha Yoga students engaged in seva, or " selfless service ," as a transformational practice.

He also learned Siddha medicine, music, and martial arts.

Tarlochan Singh Bedi ( 1999 ) writes that the Gurmukhi script developed in the 10-14th centuries from the Devasesha stage of the Sharada script the intermediate phase being Siddha Matrika, before the final evolution into Gurmukhi.

In response to concerns of biopiracy raised by research into turmeric, neem and basmati rice, the Government of India has been translating and publishing ancient manuscripts containing old remedies in electronic form, and in 2001 the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library was set up as a repository of 1200 formulations of various systems of Indian medicine, such as Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha.

Abrus precatorius, called kudri mani in Tamil and guru ginja in Telugu, has been used in Siddha medicine for centuries.

In Siddha medicine, the white variety is used to prepare oil that is claimed to be an aphrodisiac.

Some Siddha and Nathpanthi poetical works belonging to this period are also found, but their genuineness is again, doubted.

Some scholars argue that the language of Siddha poetry is not an earlier form of Hindi, but Magadhi Prakrit.
