Mary, born at St. James's Palace in London on 30 April 1662, was the eldest daughter of James, Duke of York ( the future James II & VII ), and his first wife, Lady Anne Hyde.

Already in 1059 he had persuaded Robert Guiscard and Richard of Capua to become vassals of St. Peter for their newly-conquered territories: now Gregory VII immediately after his election sent for him to give an account of the state of Norman Italy and entrusted him with the negotiation of an interview with Robert Guiscard on 2 August 1073, at Benevento.

After his death in July 939, Leo VII was interred at St. Peter's Basilica.

The palace was the principal residence of Henry VII whose sons Henry ( later Henry VIII ) and Edmund Tudor were born here, and baptised in St Alphege's.

St. Mary's Church, Moseley was licensed by the Bishop of Worcester ( authorised by Pope Innocent VII ) in February 1405, and the 600th anniversary was celebrated in 2005 with a series of special events.

St. Elizabeth of Portugal and St. Martin de Porres were particularly noted for providing such dowries, and the Archconfraternity of the Annunciation, a Roman charity dedicated to providing dowries, received the entire estate of Pope Urban VII.
