California State Route 61 runs down city streets from the Posey and Webster Street Tubes, across the Bay Farm Island Bridge, and south to the Oakland Airport.

On August 7, 1912, the Department broke ground on its first construction project, the section of El Camino Real between South San Francisco and Burlingame ( now part of California State Route 82 ).

The bridge is part of State Route 84, and is directly connected to Interstate 880 by a freeway segment north of the Fremont end.

Access to I-280 is available via State Route 84 to Woodside Road ( as signed ) or other arterial routes.

In addition, there are no direct cross-Peninsula arterial routes between State Route 84 and Page Mill Road, a five-mile gap.

Ferry at Clinton The only bridge that reaches Whidbey Island is the Deception Pass Bridge, State Route 20, which connects the north end of Whidbey to the mainland via Fidalgo Island.

Modern ferry service is available via State Route 20 on the Coupeville to Port Townsend ferry, and via State Route 525 on the Clinton to Mukilteo ferry service on the southern east coast.

The canal passes through the town of Chesapeake City, where a high-level bridge facilitates the passage of large ships beneath Maryland State Route 213.

This section passes through Douglas State Forest and is one of the most remote parts of the route that is still used as a public road.

Motorists traveling along Highway 37 from the Vallejo / Fairfield areas to the Bay Area, which passes through Mare Island, could often view US Navy Swift Boats ( PCF-Patrol Craft Fast ) and PBRs ( Patrol Boat River ), among other riverine type boats, maneuvering through the sloughs of what is now the Napa-Sonoma State Wildlife Area, which borders the north and west portions of Mare Island.

U. S. Route 9 and Route 35 split at an interchange ( the former Victory Circle ) that features access to the southbound Garden State Parkway by way of Chevalier Avenue, with Route 35 continuing north on a four-lane divided highway that passes through marshland and crosses the Raritan River on the Victory Bridge into Perth Amboy.

The Garden State Parkway passes through Cranford, with access at Exit 136 for County Route 607 and Exit 137 for Route 28.

The Garden State Parkway passes through the eastern edge of the county, which features nine interchanges and the northern start / end of the split-roadways ( Express & Local Lanes ).

Clinton is the largest settlement in the county with a population of about 5100, and lies further to the south along the Wabash River, between it and State Road 63 ; State Road 163 passes through the town to reach U. S. Route 41 on the east side of the river.

Fairview Park is just north of Clinton ; State Road 63 passes through the north end of the town.

Indiana State Road 56 enters from Switzerland County to the south and passes east along the southern border, then north through Rising Sun and along the river, continuing north to Dearborn county.

State Road 18 runs from west to east through the north end of the county, on its way from Marion to the Ohio border ; it passes through Montpelier and Matamoras.

A Norfolk Southern Railway railroad line enters the county from the south after leaving Eaton ; it runs about a mile to the east of State Road 3 until it reaches Hartford City where it veers to the northeast and passes through Montpelier.

The route continues northwest through Sussex County as a mostly two-lane, undivided road that passes through farmland and woodland as well as the communities of Franklin, Hamburg, and Sussex before reaching the New York border just south of an interchange with Interstate 84 near High Point State Park.

U. S. Route 278 passes through Sulligent, intersecting State Highway 17.

Interstate 5, ( north – south ) passes west of the downtown area while State Route 32 ( east – west ) passes through downtown.

State Route 119 passes east of town from its junction with SR 33 to the south.
