Capp is often associated with two other giants of the medium: Milton Caniff ( Terry and the Pirates, Steve Canyon ) and Walt Kelly ( Pogo ).

Strips such as The Phantom and Terry and the Pirates began appearing in a format of two strips to a page in full-size newspapers, such as the New Orleans Times Picayune, or with one strip on a tabloid page, as in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Examples include Little Orphan Annie ( drawn and plotted by Harold Gray from 1924 to 1944 and thereafter by a succession of artists including Leonard Starr and Andrew Pepoy ), and Terry and The Pirates, started by Milton Caniff in 1934 and picked up by George Wunder.

Roger Avary was originally attached to direct after the success of Pulp Fiction, collaborating with Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio in 1996 on a revision of their first script draft, which merged the " Preludes and Nocturnes " storyline with that of " The Doll's House ".

After Pirates Pryce has appeared in several large-scale productions, such as De-Lovely ( Pryce's second musical film ), a chronicle of the life of songwriter Cole Porter, for which Kevin Kline and Pryce covered a Porter song called " Blow, Gabriel, Blow ", The Brothers Grimm, Pryce's third film with Terry Gilliam, starred Matt Damon and Heath Ledger, and The New World, in which he had a cameo role as King James I.

: After a couple of years, the Tribunes editor, Captain Joseph Patterson, whose influence would later have profound effects on such strips as Terry and the Pirates and Little Orphan Annie, decided the strip should have something to appeal to women, as well, and suggested King add a baby.

The most famous Columbia serials are based on comic-strip or radio characters: Mandrake the Magician, The Shadow, Terry and the Pirates, Captain Midnight, The Phantom, Batman, and Superman, among many others.

The first Terry and the Pirates Sunday strip | Sunday page was launched on December 9, 1934.

Terry and the Pirates was an action-adventure comic strip created by cartoonist Milton Caniff.

In 1946, Caniff won the first Cartoonist of the Year Award from the National Cartoonists Society for his work on Terry and the Pirates.

Ray Bailey, Caniff's assistant on Terry and the Pirates, went on to create his own adventure strip, Bruce Gentry.

The intensely patriotic Caniff, who donated design and illustration work to the military, created a free variant of Terry and the Pirates for the military newspaper Stars and Stripes.

Although Terry and the Pirates had made Caniff famous, the strip was owned by the syndicate, which was not uncommon at the time.

After Caniff's departure, Terry and the Pirates became a " zombie strip " and was assigned to Associated Press artist George Wunder.

In 1953, Canada Dry offered a " premium giveaway " with a case of its ginger ale — one minibook in a trilogy series of Terry and the Pirates strips by Wunder printed by Harvey Comics.

Terry Barnes has been named manager.

New characters were introduced, such as Terry Duckworth ( Nigel Pivaro ), Curly Watts ( Kevin Kennedy ), Martin Platt ( Sean Wilson ), Reg Holdsworth ( Ken Morley ) and the McDonald family ; one of whom, Simon Gregson, started on the show as Steve McDonald a week after his 15th birthday, and has been in the programme ever since.

The alleged relationship has been denied by Olivier's official biographer, Terry Coleman.

In the Fifth Doctor story Resurrection of the Daleks, a small Dalek force aided by human mercenaries and Dalek duplicates liberates Davros ( now played by Terry Molloy, with a new mask designed by Stan Mitchell ) from his space station prison, needing his expertise to find an antidote for a Movellan-created virus that has all but wiped them out.

Terry Molloy has reprised his role as Davros in the spin-off audio plays produced by Big Finish Productions, mostly notably Davros ( taking place during the Sixth Doctor's era ), which, through flashbacks, explored the scientist's life prior to his crippling injury, which is attributed to a Thal nuclear attack ( an idea that first appeared in Terrance Dicks ' novelisation of Genesis of the Daleks ).

Gonzo journalism has now become a bona-fide style of writing that concerns itself with " telling it like it is ", similar to the New Journalism of the 1960s, led primarily by Tom Wolfe and also championed by Lester Bangs, George Plimpton, Terry Southern, and John Birmingham — in fact, gonzo journalism is considered a sub-genre of new journalism.
