The Byzantine text-type was used for the 16th century Textus Receptus, the first Greek-language version of the New Testament to be printed by the printing press.

Erasmus compiled and edited Greek Scriptures into the Textus Receptus — ironically, to improve upon the Latin Vulgate — following the Renaissance-fueling Fall of Constantinople in 1453 and the dispersion of Greek-speaking intellectuals and texts into a Europe which previously had access to none.

Lachmann was the first major editor to break from the Textus Receptus, seeking to restore the most ancient reading current in manuscripts of the Alexandrian text-type, using the agreement of the Western authorities ( Old Latin and Greek Western Uncials ) as the main proof of antiquity of a reading where the oldest Alexandrian authorities differ.
Erasmus adjusted the text in many places to correspond with readings found in the Vulgate, or as quoted in the Church Fathers ; consequently, although the Textus Receptus is classified by scholars as a late Byzantine text, it differs in nearly two thousand readings from the standard form of that text-type, as represented by the " Majority Text " of Hodges and Farstad ( Wallace 1989 ).
The origin of the term Textus Receptus comes from the publisher's preface to the 1633 edition produced by Bonaventure and his nephew Abraham Elzevir who were partners in a printing business at Leiden.

Frederick von Nolan, a 19th century historian and Greek and Latin scholar, spent 28 years attempting to trace the Textus Receptus to apostolic origins.
The Greek text of this edition and of those of Erasmus became known as the Textus Receptus ( Latin for " received text "), a name given to it in the Elzevier edition of 1633, which termed it as the text nunc ab omnibus receptum (" now received by all ").

The majority of textual critical scholars since the late 19th Century, have adopted an eclectic approach to the Greek New Testament ; with the most weight given to the earliest extant manuscripts which tend mainly to be Alexandrian in character ; the resulting eclectic Greek text departing from the Textus Receptus in around 6, 000 readings.

Hills argues that the principle of providentially preserved transmission guarantees that the printed Textus Receptus must be the closest text to the Greek autographs ; and consequently he rejects readings in the majority Byzantine text where these are not maintained in the Textus Receptus.
Hence the true text is found not only in the text of the majority of the New Testament manuscripts but more especially in the Textus Receptus and in faithful translations of the Textus Receptus, such as the King James Version.
In short, the Textus Receptus represents the God-guided revision of the majority text.
The Textus Receptus was established on a basis of the Byzantine text-type, also called ' Majority text ', and usually is identified with it by its followers.
But the Textus Receptus has some additions and variants which did not exist in the Byzantine text before the 16th century.

For Hills, the task of biblical scholarship is to identify the particular line of preserved transmission through which God is acting ; a line which he sees in the specific succession of manuscript copying, textual correction and printing, which culminated in the Textus Receptus and the King James Bible.
However, King James Version ( KJV )- only inerrantists often prefer the traditional texts ( i. e., Textus Receptus which is the basis of KJV ) used in their churches to modern attempts of reconstruction ( i. e., Nestle-Aland Greek Text which is the basis of modern translations ), arguing that the Holy Spirit is just as active in the preservation of the scriptures as in their creation.
The Domesday spelling is the only historical record ; all other spellings – in the later ( c. 1100 ) Domesday Monarchorum and in Textus Roffensis the town is Gravesend / Gravesende.

It is an anthology by authors such as Robert Dick Wilson ( 1856 – 1930 ), Zane Clark Hodges ( 1932 – 2008 ) and others, who distinctly reject the " Textus Receptus only " / " KJV-Only " viewpoint and whose writings actually give some information refuting some of the extremes of the KJVO movement.
This book, however, is singularly responsible for birth of the " King James only " / " Textus Receptus only " controversial viewpoint that gained wide acceptance among KJV-Only believers.
