Anadyr () is a river in the far northeast Siberia which flows into Anadyr Bay of the Bering Sea and drains much of the interior of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug.

The Soviet code name, Operation Anadyr, was also the name of a river flowing into the Bering Sea, the name of the capital of Chukotsky District, and a bomber base in the far eastern region.

The Inuit inhabit the Arctic and northern Bering Sea coasts of Alaska and Arctic coasts of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Labrador, and Greenland.

Siberian Yupik reside along the Bering Sea coast of the Chukchi Peninsula in Siberia in the Russian Far East and in the villages of Gambell and Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island in Alaska.

White killer whales occur sporadically but rarely among normal killer whales ; they have been spotted in the northern Bering Sea and around St. Lawrence Island, and near the Russian coast.

They used the boats to hunt on inland lakes, rivers and coastal waters of the Arctic Ocean, North Atlantic, Bering Sea and North Pacific oceans.

Breeding colonies can be found in the Pacific from the Kuril Islands, around the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk throughout the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands to southeast Alaska, and in the Atlantic from the Gulf of St. Lawrence through Greenland and the coast of Ireland down to Portugal, as well as in the high Arctic islands.

In sharp contrast, the Red-legged Kittiwake has a very limited range in the Bering Sea, breeding only on the Pribilof, Bogoslof and Buldir islands in the United States, and the Commander Islands in Russia.

From west to east the Northwest Passage runs through the Bering Strait ( separating Russia and Alaska ), Chukchi Sea, Beaufort Sea, and then through several waterways that go through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.

Extending approximately 15, 500 kilometres ( 9, 600 mi ) from the Bering Sea in the Arctic to the northern extent of the circumpolar Southern Ocean at 60 ° S ( older definitions extend it to Antarctica's Ross Sea ), the Pacific reaches its greatest east-west width at about 5 ° N latitude, where it stretches approximately 19, 800 kilometres ( 12, 300 mi ) from Indonesia to the coast of Colombia – halfway across the world, and more than five times the diameter of the Moon.

The Aleutian Current branches as it approaches North America and forms the base of a counter-clockwise circulation in the Bering Sea.

The major geographical changes during this time period included the emergence of the Strait of Bosphorus and Skagerrak during glacial epochs, which respectively turned the Black Sea and Baltic Sea into fresh water, followed by their flooding ( and return to salt water ) by rising sea level ; the periodic filling of the English Channel, forming a land bridge between Britain and the European mainland ; the periodic closing of the Bering Strait, forming the land bridge between Asia and North America ; and the periodic flash flooding of Scablands of the American Northwest by glacial water.

It also has maritime borders with Japan by the Sea of Okhotsk, and the U. S. state of Alaska by the Bering Strait.

The Barents Sea, White Sea, Kara Sea, Laptev Sea, East Siberian Sea, Chukchi Sea, Bering Sea, Sea of Okhotsk, and the Sea of Japan are linked to Russia via the Arctic and Pacific.

The Bering Sea also serves as the central location of the Alaskan king crab and Opilio crab seasons, which are chronicled on the Discovery Channel television program Deadliest Catch.

Chukotka's climate is influenced by its location on the three neighboring seas: the Bering Sea, the East Siberian Sea, and the Chukchi Sea.

This was the result of the announcement that the Copper River and Northwestern Railway ( CR & NW ) was going to use the town's location as its access to the Pacific Ocean and the Bering River coal fields.

In 1892, while writing up the census results, he was asked to serve as a translator for the US State Department in connection with the Bering Sea Arbitration.

The atmospheric bridge is more effective during boreal winter when the deepened Aleutian low results in stronger and cold northwesterly winds over the central Pacific and warm / humid southerly winds along the North American west coast, the associated changes in the surface heat fluxes and to a lesser extent Ekman transport creates negative sea surface temperature anomalies and a deepened MLD in the central pacific and warm the ocean from the Hawaii to the Bering Sea.

" However, Cook describes some bad weather in his account around this time, and did continue on to map most of the outer Pacific coastline of North America from modern day northern California to the Bering Strait in Alaska on the same voyage.

In the present day, a salvage crew — Captain Sean Murphy ( Gabriel Byrne ), Maureen Epps ( Julianna Margulies ), Greer ( Isaiah Washington ), Dodge ( Ron Eldard ), Munder ( Karl Urban ), and Santos ( Alex Dimitriades )— is celebrating a recent success at a bar, when Jack Ferriman ( Desmond Harrington ), a Canadian weather service pilot, approaches them and says he has spotted a mysterious vessel running adrift in the Bering Sea.

In the novel, the Soviet Union dammed the Bering Strait in the 1990s, thus changing global weather patterns by reversing the normally clockwise currents in the Pacific Ocean.

They mastered the art of whaling around the year 1000 in the Bering Strait.

Having obtained a promotion on his retirement to the level of first captain, Bering kept this rank when he decided to rejoin the Russian navy later the same year.

By 2 October 1724, Bering ( retaining the rank of first captain he had secured earlier in the year ) was back on the sea, commanding the ninety-gun Lesnoe.

The same year, Bering took up residence in Okhotsk.

King Crab, bairdi and opilio tanner crab, pollock, cod, salmon, halibut and black cod harvested in both the Bering Sea and the Gulf of Alaska are processed throughout the year.

Baird's beaked whale was first described by Leonhard Hess Stejneger in 1883 from a four-toothed skull he had found on Bering Island the previous year.
