The Hollys frequented many of New York's music venues, including The Village Gate, Blue Note, Village Vanguard, and Johnny Johnson's.

Notable jazz bassists from the 1940s to the 1950s included bassist Jimmy Blanton ( 1918 – 1942 ) whose short tenure in the Duke Ellington Swing band ( cut short by his death from tuberculosis ) introduced new melodic and harmonic solo ideas for the instrument ; bassist Ray Brown ( 1926 – 2002 ), known for backing Beboppers Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum and Charlie Parker, and forming the Modern Jazz Quartet ; hard bop bassist Ron Carter ( born 1937 ), who has appeared on 3, 500 albums make him one of the most-recorded bassists in jazz history, including LPs by Thelonious Monk and Wes Montgomery and many Blue Note Records artists ; and Paul Chambers ( 1935 – 1969 ), a member of the Miles Davis Quintet ( including the landmark modal jazz recording Kind of Blue ) and many other 1950s and 1960s rhythm sections, was known for his virtuosic improvisations.

The Village Gate, the Village Vanguard and The Blue Note ( since 1981 ), hosted some of the biggest names in jazz on a regular basis.

Also of importance are his five Blue Note recordings, collected in the Miles Davis Volume 1 album.

In 1951, Labatt launched its Pilsener Lager ; when it was introduced in Manitoba, the beer was nicknamed " Blue " for the colour of its label and the company's support of Winnipeg's Canadian Football League ( CFL ) franchise, the Blue Bombers.

Examples include the German “ Blue Angel ”, European “ Daisy ” Eco label, Global Eco-Label “ GEN mark ”, Nordic, “ White Swan ”, Japanese “ Earth friendly mark ”; USA “ Green Seal ”, Canadian “ Environmental Choice ”, Chinese “ Huan ”, Singapore “ Green Label ” and the French “ NF Environment mark ”.

At First Sight, Violets Are Blue was released in 1987, their first recording for the White label.

With * Poland ,* the band moved to the Jive Electro label, marking the beginning of the Blue Years.

Jordan was the first artist to be signed by Bruce Lundvall when the latter became president of Blue Note Records in 1985 and, consequently, Magic Touch was the first release ( not reissue ) of the rejuvenated label.

For Capitol she recorded Brighten the Corner, an album of hymns, Ella Fitzgerald's Christmas, an album of traditional Christmas carols, Misty Blue, a country and western-influenced album, and 30 by Ella, a series of six medleys that fulfilled her obligations for the label.

Exactly when the word bluegrass itself was adopted to label this form is not certain, but is believed to be in the late 1950s, and was derived from the name of the seminal Blue Grass Boys band, formed in 1939 with Bill Monroe as its leader.

ABC-Paramount subsequently purchased more labels from the Famous Music division of Gulf + Western – Dot, Steed, Acta, Blue Thumb, and Paramount, along with legendary Country and R & B label Duke / Peacock in 1974.

In 1991 Jon Bon Jovi he started his own label, Jambco Records, and produced Aldo Nova's album Blood on the Bricks and Billy Falcon's album Pretty Blue World.

The music was already weakly recorded with a trebly thin sound ; Krasnow then implemented a strange mix full of " phasing " that by most accounts ( including Beefheart's ) diminished the music's strength ; this was released in October 1968 as Strictly Personal on Krasnow's Blue Thumb label.

The label that was unsurprisingly named Blue Thumb launched with its first release Strictly Personal, a truncated version of the original Beefheart vision of a double album.

Surprised to find that a contractual clause forbade them from recording with another label, the band bought out their contract, touring in a beat up van they called, " The Blue Goose " working for more than a year to raise the funds to buy out their contract.

In 1980 Blue Angel recorded a second album for Polydor that was never released due to a change in management at Polygram Germany ; they, along with other artists, were dropped from the label.

Blue Note Records is an American jazz record label, established in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis.

In 1947, pianist Thelonious Monk recorded his first sessions as a leader for the label, which were also the Blue Note debut of drummer Art Blakey.

In 1951 Blue Note issued their first vinyl 10 " releases, and the label was soon recording new talent such as Horace Silver ( who would stay with Blue Note for a quarter of a century ), the Jazz Messengers ( originally a collaboration, but soon to become Art Blakey's group ), Milt Jackson ( as the leader of what became the Modern Jazz Quartet ) and Clifford Brown.

John Coltrane's Blue Train, and Cannonball Adderley's Somethin ' Else ( featuring Miles Davis in one of his last supporting roles ) were guest appearances on the label.

Blue Note was by then recording a mixture of established acts ( Rollins, Adderley ) and artists who in some cases had recorded before, but often produced performances for the label which by far exceeded earlier recordings in quality ( Blue Train is often considered to be the first significant recording by Coltrane as a leader ).

One of the features of the label during this period was a " family " of musicians ( Hubbard, Hancock, Carter, Grant Green, Joe Henderson, Kenny Dorham, Lee Morgan, Blue Mitchell, Hank Mobley and many others ) who would record as sidemen on each other's albums without necessarily being part of the leader's working group.

Although many of the acts on Blue Note were recording jazz for a wide audience, the label also documented some of the emerging avant-garde and free jazz players.

Pianist Cecil Taylor recorded a brace of albums for Blue Note, and saxophonist Sam Rivers, drummer Tony Williams, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and organist Larry Young also recorded albums which diverged from the " hard bop " style usually associated with the label.
