Atlantic City is located on long Absecon Island, along with Ventnor City, Margate City and Longport to the southwest.

What is now the City of Absecon was originally incorporated as a town by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 29, 1872, from portions of Egg Harbor Township and Galloway Township.

Absecon operates under the City form of New Jersey municipal government, led by a Mayor and a seven-member City Council.

Absecon City is in the 2th Congressional district and is part of New Jersey's 2th state legislative district.

Absecon Station is served by New Jersey Transit's Atlantic City Line trains, with east-west service between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.

Blee served on the Absecon City Council from 1991 – 1995, serving as Absecon's youngest ever Council President from 1992-1993.

Over the ensuing centuries, portions of the township were taken to create many new municipalities: Hamilton Township on February 5, 1813 ; Atlantic City on May 1, 1854 ; Absecon on May 1, 1854 ; South Atlantic City ( now Margate City ) on September 7, 1885 ; Pleasantville on January 10, 1889 ; Linwood on February 20, 1889 ; Somers Point on April 24, 1886 ; Longport on March 7, 1898 ; Ventnor City on March 17, 1903 ; and Northfield on March 21, 1905.

The Township is bounded by Hamilton Township and Galloway Township to the west and north, respectively, the cities of Absecon, Pleasantville, Northfield, Linwood and Somers Point to the east, Longport and Ocean City to the southeast and the city of Estell Manor to the south.

Since 1837, ten municipalities have separated from the original Egg Harbor Township, including Atlantic City ( 1854 ), Absecon ( 1872 ), South Atlantic City ( now Margate ) ( 1885 ), Somers Point ( 1886 ), Pleasantville ( 1888 ), Linwood ( 1889 ), Longport ( 1898 ), Brigantine ( 1903 ), Ventnor ( 1903 ) and Northfield ( 1905 ).

After becoming part of the newly formed Atlantic County in 1837, portions of the township were taken to create Mullica Township ( March 13, 1838 ), Egg Harbor City ( June 14, 1858 ), Absecon town ( February 29, 1872 ), Brigantine Beach borough ( now Brigantine city ; June 14, 1890 ) and Port Republic ( March 1, 1905 ).

At that time it was part of Gloucester County, and comprised what is now Hammonton, Mullica Township, Egg Harbor City, Port Republic, Brigantine, Atlantic City, and the northern portion of Absecon.

Longport neighbors Margate City, and shares Absecon Island with Ventnor City and Atlantic City.
