The Gospel According to John ( Greek τὸ κατὰ Ἰωάννην εὐαγγέλιον ), commonly referred to as the Gospel of John or simply John and often referred to in New Testament scholarship as the Fourth Gospel, is an account of the public ministry of Jesus.

According to scholar Ronald Cameron, it was originally composed some time between the middle of the 1st century and early in the 2nd century, and it was probably written shortly before the Gospel of John.

Gospel also lends some of its more modern roots to the mass revival movement ( starting with Dwight L. Moody, whose musician was Ira D. Sankey ) and the Holiness-Pentecostal movement.

La Mère de Dieu (" The Mother of God ", 1844 ) followed and, after leaving the seminary, two radical tracts, L ' Evangile du Peuple (" The Gospel of the People ", 1840 ), and Le Testament de la Liberté (" The Testament of Liberty "), published in the year of revolutions, 1848, led to two brief prison sentences.

It attempts to explain the relationship among the three Gospels and posits that there were at least four sources to the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke: the Gospel of Mark, and three hypothesized sources: Q, M-Source and L source.

James R. Edwards ( 2009 ) argued that the 4th Century Jewish-Christian gospels preserved in citations by Jerome and others preserve material from a proto-Matthew which, if more had survived, would correspond to " L material " used in the Gospel of Luke.

But the presentation of a fourth century papyrus fragment ( probably copy of another one dating back to the 2nd century ) called the Gospel of Jesus ' wife at the International Congress of Coptic Studies in Rome on September 18, 2012 by Karen L. King may fuel the idea that early Christians believed that Jesus was married.

With the Social Gospel sociologist Edwin L. Earp's The Social Engineer, published during the " efficiency craze " of 1911 in the U. S., the usage of the term was launched that has since then been standard: the one building on a metaphor of social relations as " machineries ", to be dealt with in the manner of the technical engineer.

In an interview during the 1970s with author Jean-Luc Chaumeil, Philippe de Chérisey asserted: " the parchments of the Gospel according to Saint Luke fabricated by me and for which I pinched the uncial text from the work L ' archéologie chrétienne ( Christian Archaeology ) by Dom Cabrol at the National Library, section C25 ".
