* Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam ( Commentary on the Gospel according to Luke )

It is said to be that the author of the Gospel of Luke is the same as the author of the Acts of the Apostles.

The question regarding the genre of Acts is complicated by the fact that it was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke.

Evidence for this is found in the prologue to the Gospel of Luke, wherein the author alludes to his sources by writing, " Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

“ Acts, then is a continuation of the Lucan Gospel, not in the sense that it relates what Jesus continued to do, but how his followers carried out his commission under the guidance of his Spirit .” Thus, part of the answer to the purpose of Acts is that Luke is writing to Theophilus, who is also mentioned in Luke 1: 3, in order to explain to him the occurrences that take place in the church that fulfill Jesus ’ promise to his disciples that “ you will be baptized with, the Holy Spirit not many days from now ” ( Acts 1: 5 ).

The author opens with a prologue, usually taken to be addressed to an individual by the name of Theophilus ( though this name, which translates literally as " God-lover ", may be a nickname rather than a personal appellation ) and references " my earlier book "— almost certainly the Gospel of Luke.

As in the Gospel of Luke, there are numerous references to the Holy Spirit throughout Acts.

The Gospel of Luke and Acts both devote a great deal of attention to the oppressed and downtrodden.

Prayer is a major motif in both the Gospel of Luke and Acts.

The Gospel of Luke depicts prayer as a certain feature in Jesus's life.

* Steiner also believed that there were two different Jesus children involved in the Incarnation of the Christ: one child descended from Solomon, as described in the Gospel of Matthew, the other child from Nathan, as described in the Gospel of Luke.

By the time the Gospels of Luke and Matthew were written, Jesus is portrayed as being the Son of God from the time of birth, and finally the Gospel of John portrays him as the pre-existent Word () as existing " in the beginning ".

Bede's works included Commentary on Revelation, Commentary on the Catholic Epistles, Commentary on Acts, Reconsideration on the Books of Acts, On the Gospel of Mark, On the Gospel of Luke, and Homilies on the Gospels.

The earliest Christian interpretations of Jonah are found in the Gospel of Matthew ( see and 16: 1-4 ) and the Gospel of Luke ( see Luke 11: 29-32 ).

Clement of Alexandria ( Stromata, ii, 20 ) also makes Barnabas one of the Seventy Disciples that are mentioned in the Gospel of Luke 10: 1ff.

Among the teachings of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew, the message to his followers that one should " Turn the other cheek " and his example in the story Pericope Adulterae, in which Jesus intervenes in the stoning of an adulteress, are generally accepted as his condemnation of physical retaliation ( though most scholars agree that the latter passage was " certainly not part of the original text of St John's Gospel ") More militant Christians consider Romans 13: 3 – 4 to support the death penalty.

This verse in the Olivet Discourse also occurs in the Gospel of Luke.

In addition to Triumphant Democracy ( 1886 ), and The Gospel of Wealth ( 1889 ), he also wrote An American Four-in-hand in Britain ( 1883 ), Round the World ( 1884 ), The Empire of Business ( 1902 ), The Secret of Business is the Management of Men ( 1903 ), James Watt ( 1905 ) in the Famous Scots Series, Problems of Today ( 1907 ), and his posthumously published autobiography Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie ( 1920 ).

Eusebius ( c. 263 – 339 ) was inclined to class the Apocalypse with the accepted books but also listed it in the Antilegomena, with his own reservation for identification of John of Patmos with John the Apostle, pointing out there were large differences in Greek skill and styles between the Gospel of John, which he attributed to John the Apostle, and the Revelation.

It also set out in full the " propers " ( that is the parts of the service which varied week by week or, at times, daily throughout the Church's Year ): the Collect and the Epistle and Gospel readings for the Sunday Communion Service.

The opening words in the Gospel of Mark, namely " The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God " also identify Jesus as both Christ and the Son of God.

An Old Latin version of Tatian's Syriac text appears to have circulated in the West from the late 2nd century ; with a sequence adjusted to conform more closely to that of the canonical Gospel of Luke, and also including additional material ( such as the pericope of the adulteress ), possibly from the Gospel of the Hebrews.

The older mixed Vulgate / Diatessaron text type also appears to have continued as a distinct tradition, as such texts appear to underlie surviving 13th-14th century Gospel harmonies in Middle Dutch, Middle High German, Middle French, Middle English, Tuscan and Venetian ; although no example of this hypothetical Latin sub-text has ever been identified.

This Latin Diatessaron textual tradition has also been suggested as underlying the enigmatic 16th century Islam-inflected Gospel of Barnabas ( Joosten, 2002 ).

Item, take note that this office calls for excellency of life, so that just as the preacher speaks from a raised position, so he may also preach the Gospel from the mountain of an excellent life "

The Fifth Monarchists were also a significant opponent to the Rump Parliament and leading Fifth Monarchists like Vavasor Powell were annoyed at the Rump's failure to renew certain pieces of legislation, such as the Propagation of the Gospel in Wales, because they believed that the Rump was not fulfilling what the Fifth Monarchists perceived to be its aim, that is to turn England into a more ' godly ' nation.

Fra Marino also claims to have been alerted to the existence of the Gospel of Barnabas, from an allusion in a work by Irenaeus against Paul ; in a book which had been presented to him by a lady of the Colonna family ( Marino, outside Rome, is the location of the Palazzo Colonna ).

The Gospel also takes a strongly anti-Pauline tone at times, saying in the Italian version's beginning: " many, being deceived of Satan, under pretence of piety, are preaching most impious doctrine, calling Jesus son of God, repudiating the circumcision ordained of God for ever, and permitting every unclean meat: among whom also Paul has been deceived.

The idea of the Messiah as an Arab is also found in another chapter of Gospel of Barnabas:

Here, one version of the Gospel of Barnabas also quotes Jesus as saying that the sacrificed son of Abraham was Ishmael not Isaac, conforming to Islamic belief but disagreeing with Jewish and Christian belief.

Some feel it also suggests that the inhabitants of Galatia at his time were using a gospel or gospels disagreeing with Paul's beliefs, which Gospel of Barnabas could be one of them ( although the Gospel of Peter would seem a more natural candidate, as in the light of the second letter.

Biblical Scholars are in wide agreement that the author of the Gospel of Luke also wrote the Acts of the Apostles.

The saint's body was claimed to have been discovered in a cave with a copy of the canonical Gospel of Matthew on its breast ; according to the contemporary account of Theodorus Lector, who reports that both bones and gospel book were presented by Anthemios to the emperor.

The Gospel of John reports that Jesus ' disciples were baptizing and that a debate broke out between some of the disciples of John and another Jew about purification.

They published their results in three reports: The Five Gospels ( 1993 ), The Acts of Jesus ( 1998 ), and The Gospel of Jesus ( 1999 ).

The Acts of Pilate (; ), also called the Gospel of Pilate, is a purported official document from Pontius Pilate ( or composed from reports at the praetorium at Jerusalem ) reporting events in Judea to Emperor Tiberius, and referring to the crucifixion of Jesus, as well as his miracles.

Though the charges were reformulated in several different reports, they generally held that the faculty ( and, particularly, members of the exegetical theology department ) were using historical-critical methods for biblical interpretation, and that these professors improperly stressed the importance of the doctrine or teaching of Gospel ( forgiveness of sins in Christ ) over the importance of the Christian Bible.

The Gospel of Matthew also reports of Jesus healing two blind men in Galilee, at some earlier time, who also called him " Son of David.

:" They say that he was not begotten of God the Father, but created as one of the archangels ... that he rules over the angels and all the creatures of the Almighty, and that he came and declared, as their Gospel, which is called according to the Hebrews, reports: I am come to abolish the sacrifices, if ye cease not from sacrificing, the wrath will not cease from you.

The Gospel of Mark reports that Jesus was crucified at nine in the morning, and died at three in the afternoon, or just six hours after the crucifixion.

In addition to his work as a teacher, Eusebius of Caesarea reports that Pantaenus was for a time a missionary, traveling as far as India where, according to Eusebius, he found Christian communities using the Gospel of Matthew written in " Hebrew letters ", supposedly left them by the apostle Bartholemew ( and which might have been the Gospel of the Hebrews ).
