* Palestinian Centre for Human Rights PCHR: Gaza affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists

In 1983 Awad returned to Jerusalem and established the Palestinian Centre for the Study of Nonviolence.

His article on Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, published in the PLO's Research Centre Magazine, Shu ' un Filistiniyya ( Palestinian Affairs ) was influential in diffusing the image of the former as a forerunner of the Palestinian armed struggle.

As an example of the misuse of the term " antisemitism ," he cites the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia's 2003 report, which included displays of the Palestinian flag, support for the PLO, and the comparisons between Israel and apartheid-era South Africa in its list of antisemitic activities and beliefs.

* 1991: Muhammad Abu-Zaid, Palestinian doctor and founder of the Palestinian Centre for Jewish Studies, for his work on promoting cultural understanding as means for peace, and Galit Hasan-Rokem on behalf of the Israeli Women's Peace Net, for their efforts to promote cooperation between Palestinian and Israeli women.

* 1949 – United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East is established to provide aid to Palestinian refugees who left their homes during the 1948 Palestinian exodus.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine ( DFLP ) ( Arabic: ' الجبهة الديموقراطية لتحرير فلسطين ', transliterated Al-Jabha al-Dimuqratiya Li-Tahrir Filastin ) is a Palestinian Marxist-Leninist, secular political and military organization.

The First Intifada ( 1987 – 93 ) provoked a shift in Palestinian politics towards the Occupied Palestinian Territories, which proved a severe handicap for the largely diaspora-based DFLP.

In a meeting with 8 Jewish and 8 Protestant Dutch leaders in Israel in May 2011, a statement of cooperation was issued, indicating, for the most part, that the Protestant Church recognizes the issues involved with the Palestinian Christians and that this is sometimes at odds with support for the State of Israel, but standing up for the rights of the Palestinians does not detract from the emphasis on the safety of the State of Israel and vice versa.

* 1991 – A Missouri court sentences the Palestinian militant Zein Isa and his wife Maria to death for the honor killing of their daughter Palestina.

Egypt played an important role in the negotiations leading to the Madrid Conference of 1991, which, under United States and Soviet sponsorship, brought together all parties in the region, including for the first time a Palestinian delegation, to discuss Middle East peace.

Contentious issues include Egypt's signing of the Camp David Accords with Israel in 1979, its support for Iraq in Iran's eight-year conflict, the Islamic Republic's hailing of Khalid Islambouli, the late President Anwar Sadat's assassin as a religious hero, seeing as there was both a street and mural named after him ( however, the honorer was changed to Muhammad al-Durrah, the 12-year-old Palestinian boy shot and killed during the outset of the Second Intifada ), and close Egyptian relations with the United States, and most of the Western European countries.

Officials on the third day of the Fatah convention in Bethlehem unanimously accepted the proposal put forth by the chairman of the Araft Institute stating that Israel had been behind the " assassination " of the late Palestinian Authority Chairman and affirmed Fatah's request for international aid to probe the issue.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel, Danny Ayalon, said the conference was a " serious blow to peace " and " was another lost opportunity for the Palestinian leadership to adopt moderate views.

These included strikes against leading Jordanian politicians, as a means of exacting vengeance and raising the price for attacking the Palestinian movement ; and also, most controversially, for " international operations " ( e. g. the Munich Olympics attack ), intended both to put pressure on the US, European countries and Israel, and to raise the visibility of the Palestinian cause, and to upstage radical rivals such as the PFLP.

Much of the Strip ( except for the settlement blocs and military areas ) came under Palestinian control.

The Israel-PLO Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements ( the DOP, better known as the Oslo accords ), signed in Washington on 13 September 1993, provided for a transitional period not exceeding five years of Palestinian interim self-government in sections of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The US granted a request from the Palestinian National Authority for recognition of the West Bank and Gaza as a Country in view of developments including the Israeli-PLO Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements.

* Proposals for a Palestinian state

The British demanded that the number of Jewish recruits match the number of Palestinian Arab recruits but very few Arabs were willing to fight for Britain.

This situation caused the US to withdraw their support for the Partition plan, thus encouraging the Arab League to believe that the Palestinian Arabs, reinforced by the Arab Liberation Army, could put an end to the plan for partition.

The majority of Palestinian Arab hopes lay with the Arab Legion of Transjordan's monarch, King Abdullah I, but he had no intention of creating a Palestinian Arab-run state, since he hoped to annex as much of the territory of the British Mandate for Palestine as he could.

Human Rights Watch has cited a number of summary executions as particular examples of violations of the rules of warfare, including the case of Muhammad Swairki, 28, a cook for Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's presidential guard, who was thrown to his death, with his hands and legs tied, from a 15-story apartment building in Gaza City.

In 2005, a report by John Dugard for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights stated that the " three major settlement blocs-Gush Etzion, Ma ' ale Adumim and Ariel-will effectively divide Palestinian territory into cantons or Bantustans.

... in an appalling breach of its own principles and procedures, the UN Human Rights Council has institutionalised a permanent agenda item indicting one member state -- agenda item No 7, which speaks of " Israeli human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territories " -- while agenda item No 8 speaks of " human rights violations in the rest of the world ".

A fact finding mission on Human Rights violations during the 2008 Gaza War between Israel and Hamas was called by the Jan 12 2009 UNHRC Resolution A / HRC / S-9 / L. 1 which limited the investigation to " violations (...) by the occupying Power, Israel, against the Palestinian people throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip " but, before any investigation, already " Strongly condemns the ongoing Israeli military operation carried out in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly in the occupied Gaza Strip, which has resulted in massive violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people ".

Later investigations by the United Nations and Human Rights Watch estimated the total Palestinian death toll at 52 ( with estimates of civilian deaths ranging from 22 to 26 ) and contradicted previous claims that a massacre had taken place.

In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( UDHR ) article 13 states “ everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country .” From 1953 to 1973, the Palestinian Question was largely regarded as a refugee problem, until this seismic shift in legal discourse applied the inalienable right of return as a universal human right under article 13.

Human Rights Watch urged it to look at international human rights and humanitarian law violations committed by Palestinian armed groups as well.

The Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group is a diverse human rights group founded in December 1996 by a group of prominent Palestinians, including members of the Palestinian Legislative Council ( the legislative arm of the Palestinian Authority ).
