The church has an open canon which includes four scriptural texts: the Bible ( both Old and New Testaments ), the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

The Pearl of Great Price is a selection of material produced by Joseph Smith, Jr. and deals with many significant aspects of the faith and doctrine of the Church.

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS Church ), The Doctrine and Covenants of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stands alongside the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and The Pearl of Great Price as holy scripture.

The revelations were earlier accepted as scripture when added to The Pearl of Great Price in April 1976.

Mormons have a scriptural canon consisting of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and a collection of revelations and writings by Joseph Smith known as the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price.

This book is believed to be the translated writings of Moses, and is included in the Pearl of Great Price.

Unlike other Latter Day Saint movement traditions ( such as the Community of Christ ), it also accepts the Pearl of Great Price as part of its scriptural canon, and has a history of teaching eternal marriage, eternal progression, and plural marriage ( although the LDS Church had abandoned that practice by the early 20th century ).

Smith's 1838 written account of this vision is considered by some Mormon denominations to be scripture and is contained in a book called " The Pearl of Great Price.

After Smith's death, the identification as " Nephi " was repeated when The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints published its first edition of the Pearl of Great Price.

In the version of Smith's 1838 history published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as well as the portion canonized by that denomination as the Pearl of Great Price, the name " Nephi " has been changed by editors to read " Moroni ".

The Parable of the Pearl ( also called the Pearl of Great Price ) is a parable of Jesus of Nazareth.

This interpretation of the parable is the inspiration for a number of hymns, including the Swedish hymn Den Kos ­ tli ­ ga Pärlan ( O That Pearl of Great Price!

The phrase " Pearl of Great Price " has also been interpreted more widely to apply to things of great value in a number of religious contexts.
