In the Prose Edda, Gylfi, King of Sweden before the arrival of the Æsir under Odin, travels to Asgard, questions the three officials shown in the illumination concerning the Æsir, and is beguiled.

The primary sources regarding Asgard come from the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Icelandic Snorri Sturluson, and the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from a basis of much older Skaldic poetry.

The Prose Edda presents two views regarding Asgard.

The pair are attested in both the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson.

Snorri uses his visiting the Æsir as the frame of that section of the Prose Edda.

The bridge is attested as Bilröst in the Poetic Edda ; compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, and as Bifröst in the Prose Edda ; written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson, and in the poetry of skalds.

Both the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda alternately refer to the bridge as Asbrú ( Old Norse " Æsir's bridge ").

According to the Prose Edda, the bridge ends in heaven at Himinbjörg, the residence of the god Heimdallr, who guards it from the jötnar.

Two poems in the Poetic Edda and two books in the Prose Edda provide information about the bridge:

Compiled in Iceland in the 13th century, but based on much older Old Norse poetry, the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda contain numerous references to the death of Baldr as both a great tragedy to the Æsir and a harbinger of Ragnarök.

According to Gylfaginning, a book of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, Baldr's wife is Nanna and their son is Forseti.

Húsdrápa, a skaldic poem partially preserved in the Prose Edda, relates the story of the theft of Brísingamen by Loki.

In the Prose Edda Snorri Sturluson quotes many stanzas attributed to Bragi Boddason the old ( Bragi Boddason inn gamli ), a court poet who served several Swedish kings, Ragnar Lodbrok, Östen Beli and Björn at Hauge who reigned in the first half of the 9th century.

Snorri in the Prose Edda states that the light elves dwell in Álfheim while the dark elves dwell underground.

In the Prose Edda, a narrative is provided that draws from, adds to, and differs from the accounts in the Poetic Edda.

Depending on manuscript variation, the Prose Edda adds that Dagr is either Dellingr's son by Nótt, the personified night, or Jörð, the personified Earth.

Both sources state that he is the brother of the personified sun, Sól, and the son of Mundilfari, while the Prose Edda adds that he is followed by the children Hjúki and Bil through the heavens.

In this third year at the university, Hans, in 1797, was awarded the first important token of recognition, a gold medal for his essay on `` Limits Of Poetry And Prose ''.

The Poetic and Prose Eddas, the oldest sources for information on the Norse concept of the afterlife, vary in their description of the several realms that are described as falling under this topic.

Along with the Prose Edda, the Poetic Edda is the most expansive source on Norse mythology.

In reference to Fenrir's presentation in the Prose Edda, Andy Orchard theorizes that " the hound ( or wolf )" Garmr, Sköll, and Hati Hróðvitnisson were originally simply all Fenrir, stating that " Snorri, characteristically, is careful to make distinctions, naming the wolves who devour the sun and moon as Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson respectively, and describing an encounter between Garm and Týr ( who, one would have thought, might like to get his hand on Fenrir ) at Ragnarök.

During the 16th century Italian Renaissance, the Questione della lingua was the discussion on the status and ideal form of the Italian language, initiated by Dante's de vulgari eloquentia ( Pietro Bembo, Prose della volgar lingua Venice 1525 ).

In the Prose Edda and the Third Grammatical Treatise, the two ravens are described as perching on Odin's shoulders.

Heimdallr is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional material ; in the Prose Edda and Heimskringla, both written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson ; in the poetry of skalds ; and on an Old Norse runic inscription found in England.

The word was adopted into English in the nineteenth century from medieval Icelandic treatises on poetics, in particular the Prose Edda of Snorri Sturluson, and derives ultimately from the Old Norse verb kenna “ know, recognise ; perceive, feel ; show ; teach ; etc .”, as used in the expression kenna við “ to name after ; to express thing in terms of ”, “ name after ; refer to in terms of ”, and kenna til “ qualify by, make into a kenning by adding ”.

These works were the Estoire del Saint Grail, the Estoire de Merlin, the Lancelot propre ( or Prose Lancelot, which made up half the entire Vulgate Cycle on its own ), the Queste del Saint Graal and the Mort Artu, which combine to form the first coherent version of the entire Arthurian legend.

John Milton ( 1608 – 1674 ) wrote a textbook in logic or dialectic in Latin based on Ramus ' work, which has now been translated into English by Walter J. Ong and Charles J. Ermatinger in The Complete Prose Works of John Milton ( Yale University Press, 1982 ; 8: 206-407 ), with a lengthy introduction by Ong ( 144-205 ).

Víðarr is attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources, the Prose Edda, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson, and is interpreted as depicted with Fenrir on the Gosforth Cross.

Traditionally, following Völuspá and Snorri Sturluson's account in the Prose Edda, scholarship on the Vanir has focused on the Æsir – Vanir War, its possible basis in a war between tribes, and whether the Vanir originated as the deities of a distinct people.

Along with Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, the Poetic Edda is the most important extant source on Norse mythology and Germanic heroic legends, and from the early 19th century onwards has had a powerful influence on later Scandinavian literatures, not merely through the stories it contains but through the visionary force and dramatic quality of many of the poems.

The assumption that Snorri Sturluson is responsible for writing the Prose Edda is largely based on the following paragraph from a portion of Codex Upsaliensis, an early 14th century manuscript containing the Prose Edda:

Skáldskaparmál ( Old Icelandic " the language of poetry ") is the third section of the Prose Edda, and consists of a dialogue between Ægir, a god associated with the sea, and Bragi, a skaldic god, in which both Nordic mythology and discourse on the nature of poetry are intertwined.

According to chapter 51 of the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning, Odin will ride in front of the Einherjar while advancing on to the battle field at Ragnarök wearing a gold helmet, an impressive cloak of mail and carrying Gungnir.

Between 1506 and 1512 he lived in Urbino, and it was here that Bembo began to write his most influential work, a prose treatise on writing poetry in Italian, Prose della volgar lingua, although it was not to be published until much later.

He also wrote a work on Latin composition, De emendata structura, Latini sermonis (" On the Pure and Correct Structure of Latin Prose "), which was published in London in 1524 and many times reprinted on the continent of Europe.
