* April 5 – In Britain, the Trade Disputes and Trade Union Act 1927 forbids strikes of support.

The Lords passed the Trade Disputes Act, the Workmens Compensation Act and the Eight Hours Act, but rejected the Education Bill of 1906 and the Licensing Bill of 1908, both of the latter being important measures in the eyes of Liberal nonconformist voters.

He was one of the foremost advocates of his age and as Attorney-General guided the Trade Disputes Act of 1927 through the House of Commons after the general strike of 1926 which had ended with large-scale unemployment while those still employed were forced to accept longer hours, lower wages, and district wage agreements.

The Trade Disputes and Trade Union Act made mass picketing and all sympathetic strikes illegal and directed that union members had to contract into any political levy.

After the United Kingdom general election, 1906 a coalition government composed of the new Labour Party and the Liberals, among whom David Lloyd George and Winston Churchill were rising stars, quickly passed the Trade Disputes Act 1906.

In the United Kingdom, sympathy strikes were outlawed by the Trade Disputes and Trade Union Act of 1927 in the aftermath of the General Strike.

This was repealed by the Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Act 1946, passed by the post-war Labour Government.

Birkett led the Liberal response to the Labour proposal of the Trade Disputes Bill 1931 and " reduced it to tatters ", although the bill passed because of the Liberal Party abstaining.

His work mainly concerned the drafting of government Bills, and in particular the reversal of the Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Act 1927.

In the UK mass picketing was made illegal under the Trade Disputes and Trade Unions Act 1927 after the 1926 General Strike.

In the early 1990s, the confederation had three major components: the 45, 000-member Federation of Unions of National Workers of Honduras ( Federación Sindical de Trabajadores Nacionales de Honduras — Fesitranh ); the 22, 000 member Central Federation of Honduran Free Trade Unions ( Federación Central de Sindicatos Libres de Honduras ); and the 2, 200-member Federation of National Maritime Unions of Honduras ( Federación de Sindicales Marítimas Nacionales de Honduras ).

The CTH received support from foreign labor organizations, including ORIT, the American Institute for Free Labor Development ( AIFLD ), and Germany's Friedrich Ebert Foundation and was an affiliate of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions ( ICFTU ).

He enjoyed good relationships with union leaders like Albert Monk, President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, and Jim Healy, leader of the radical Waterside Workers Federation and he gained a reputation for tolerance, restraint and a willingness to compromise, although his controversial decision to use troops to take control of cargo facilities during a waterside dispute in Bowen, Queensland in September 1953 provoked bitter criticism.

Despite open disappointment and sharp critique, the revived International Federation of Trade Unions ( IFTU ), founded in 1913, quickly adapted itself to this mechanism.

* 1807: The Slave Trade Act was passed by the British Parliament on 25 March 1807, making the slave trade illegal throughout the British Empire.
