Because clerics resisted it, the celibacy mandate was restated at the Second Lateran Council ( 1139 ) and the Council of Trent ( 1545 – 64 ).

During the pontificate of Pope Paul III the Council fathers met for the first through eighth sessions in Trent ( 1545 – 7 ), and for the ninth through eleventh sessions in Bologna ( 1547 ).

Under Pope Julius III, the Council met in Trent ( 1551 – 52 ) for the twelfth through sixteenth sessions, and under Pope Pius IV, the seventeenth through twenty-fifth sessions took place in Trent ( 1559 – 63 ).

Reopened at Trent on 1 May 1551 by convocation of Pope Julius III ( 1550 – 5 ), it was broken up by the sudden victory of Maurice, Elector of Saxony over the Emperor Charles V and his march into surrounding state of Tirol on 28 April 1552.

By 54 CE the border had been pushed back to the Severn and the Trent, and campaigns were underway to subjugate Northern England and Wales.

The Trent – Severn Waterway is a canal route traversing Southern Ontario cottage country, and a linear National Historic Site of Canada administered by Parks Canada.

Its major natural waterways include the Trent River, Otonabee River, the Kawartha lakes, Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching and the Severn River.

The Trent – Severn Waterway is managed by Parks Canada under the statutory authority of the Historic Canals Regulations ( which outline and delegate the responsibilities for navigation, resource protection, dredge and fill operations, the operation of boater campgrounds, etc .).

More than private and commercial properties abut the navigation corridor of the Trent – Severn Waterway.

Boaters use the Trent – Severn Waterway lock which raises boats from Stony Lake to Lovesick Lake.

There, the Crowe River passes over Marmora Dam, heads southwest into the township of Stirling-Rawdon, passes over two one-metre ( 3 ft 3 in )- high and-wide falls at Callaghan's Rapids Conservation Area, enters the municipality of Trent Hills in Northumberland County, flows over Allan Mills dam ,, passes over several falls at Crow Bridge Conservation Area, and reaches its mouth at Crowe Bay on the Trent River, just upstream of the Trent – Severn Waterway Crowe Bay lock and dam.

The Peterborough Lift Lock is a boat lift located on the Trent Canal in the city of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and is Lock 21 on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

The lift lock was designed by Richard Birdsall Rogers, a superintendent of the Trent Canal ( part of the Trent-Severn Waterway ).
