He is best known for his novels about the assassin Vlad Taltos.

There are two series set in the world of Dragaera, namely The Khaavren Romances and The Vlad Taltos novels.

* In 1986, Steven Brust was a Guest of Honor at the Per Ardua Ad Astra science fiction convention in Toronto, and he contributed the Vlad Taltos short story " A Dream of Passion " to the convention chapbook.

Vlad Taltos is one of the human minority ( known by Dragaerans as " Easterners "), which exists as a lower class in the Empire.

The Vlad Taltos series is set in a fantastical world of magic, at a time directly following a 1, 000-year interregnum wherein magic was impossible.

Jhereg is the name of the first novel in the Vlad Taltos series, which was published in 1983.

The House of the Jhereg is the Dragaeran Noble House to which Vlad Taltos belongs.

Brust has written thirteen novels in the series, which is proposed to run to nineteen novels — one named for each of the Great Houses, one named for Vlad himself, and a final novel which Brust has said will be titled The Final Contract.

The two series are finally brought together in the thirteenth novel in the Vlad series, Tiassa, which can also be viewed as the sixth novel in the Khaavren series.

The first section reads like the first three novels in the series, with a first-person narration by Vlad but including Khaavren ’ s son, Piro ; the second section has a different viewpoint character in each of its chapters ; and the third section is narrated by Paarfi in the style of the earlier Khaavren Romances, with Khaavren as the viewpoint character and interacting with Vlad.

In 2004, the third series, subtitled 6 Faces of Madness, used historical killers and madmen as its theme, generating vividly detailed figurines of the 5th century conqueror Attila the Hun, American " Wild West " gunslinger Billy the Kid, the " mad monk " Rasputin, the British serial killer Jack the Ripper, the Hungarian " Blood Queen " Elizabeth Bathory, and the real-life inspiration for Dracula, Vlad the Impaler.

He later worked on the series Amethyst, Zatanna, Atlantis Chronicles, The Savage Sword of Conan, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Dracula: Vlad the Impaler and X-Men Unlimited.

While the TV series does not include the same scenes to explicitly state that Alucard is Dracula, the end of the anime series implied that he is Vlad the Impaler, one of the original inspirations for Dracula.

In addition to its unique architecture, the castle is famous because of persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad III Dracula.

In the English-speaking world, Vlad is best known for the exceedingly cruel punishments he imposed during his reign and for serving as the primary inspiration for the vampire main character in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.

* 1462: Mehmed the Conqueror is driven back by Wallachian prince Vlad III Dracula at The Night Attack.

* Alexandru I Aldea is replaced as ruler of Wallachia by Vlad II Dracul.

* August 20 – Vladislav II, reigning Prince of Wallachia, is killed in battle by Vlad III Dracula, who succeeds him.

* Vlad II Dracul is temporarily replaced as ruler of Wallachia by his son Mircea.

Vlad also practices the human art of witchcraft ; " táltos " is Hungarian for a kind of supernatural person in folklore.

An even earlier example of a puppet state ( as well as a vassal state ) is Wallachia, which was partially de facto ruled by the Ottoman Empire from 1462 when Radu the Handsome was placed on the throne after his older brother Vlad III was banished from Wallachia and interned by Hungary.

The character of Count Dracula is thought by some to be based upon, Vlad Dracula III ' ( Vlad the Impaler ).

Sebastian is revealed to be Radu Cel Frumos, the brother of Vlad the Impaler, Dracula.

Later writings about the case have led to legendary accounts of the Countess bathing in the blood of virgins to retain her youth and subsequently also to comparisons with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia, on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based, and to modern nicknames of the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.

* Vlad — the black-clad, pale-skinned leader of the Merovingian's vampires ; he is killed by Niobe, who stabs him through the heart with a wooden stake.

During the 15th century, Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, is credited as the first notable figure to prefer this method of execution during the late medieval period, and became so notorious for its liberal employment that among his several nicknames he was known as Vlad the Impaler.

In the show Danny Phantom Danny is often seen calling Vlad Masters / Plasmius a " Fruit Loop ".

* In Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, Saint George is chronicled as being the saint who killed Vlad Tepesh ( also known as Dracula, which means " son of the dragon " or " son of the devil ").

Vlad Țepeș planned to set an ambush.

All of this set the stage for Vlad Călugărul to rule.

The portions of the novel set in Istanbul, for example, highlight the extent to which the real Vlad detested the Ottomans, waging holy war upon them.

Another youth Mehmed found attractive, and who was presumably more accommodating, was Radu III the Fair, the brother of the famous Vlad the Impaler, “ Radu, a hostage in Istanbul whose good looks had caught the Sultan ’ s fancy, and who was thus singled out to serve as one of his most favored pages .” After the defeat of Vlad, Mehmed placed Radu on the throne of Wallachia as a vassal ruler.

The killing caused an enormous public outcry — in an unprecedented move, ORT and several other Russian TV Channels shut down for the whole day on March 2, displaying only the picture of Listyev and the words " Vlad Listyev Has Been Killed.

Stefan helped to oust Vlad Țepeș's brother, Radu the Handsome who had converted to Islam and later became the Ottoman commander of Wallachia, he then installed Laiotă Basarab the Old on the throne in the hope of bringing Wallachia back into the Christian camp.

However, Mircea had to retreat to Hungary, while the Turks installed Vlad Uzurpatorul on the throne of Wallachia.

Although the invading troops were defeated somewhere in a rovină (" ragged marshland ") in Oltenia, the chaos created by the threat of attacks allowed a group of boyars to put Vlad I the Usurper ( 1395 – 1397 ) on the throne.

This character was created by the Irish fiction writer Bram Stoker, based on some stories spread in the late Middle Ages by the frustrated German trademen of Kronstadt ( Braṣov ) and on some Balkan folklore tales about the historic Romanian figure of Prince Vlad Ţepeş.

These years had a great influence on Vlad, as he was often whipped and beaten by the Turks for being stubborn and rude.

Virlomi then declares war on China, setting off all manner of plots: Muslim hardliners attempt to assassinate Alai ; Russia invades China and eastern Europe using " contingency " plans drawn up by a horrified Vlad ; and Fly Molo of the Philippines is instructed to invade Taiwan, his nation suicidally confident in their Jeesh member.

Dr. Vlad Sobell has pointed out that the proponents of the theory that the second invasion of Chechnya was a plot by Putin to get elected regularly ignore the key fact that Putin's attack on Chechnya in 1999 was preceded by a Chechen insurrection in Dagestan, whose objective was to turn it into another unstable Chechnya.

Radu Florescu documented on page 193 of his book, " Dracula: Prince of Many Faces " that the Holy Roman Emperour Ferdinand I granted a patent of nobility January 20, 1535 to Ladislas Dracula and his brother John, affirming their direct descent from Vlad and making specific mention of " the ancient insignia of Ladislas's family " having been the same as that of the Bathory family -- i. e., gules ( red ) a sword covering three wolf teeth.

In 1431, Vlad Dracul's brother Alexandru I Aldea took the throne from Dan II, the latter having held it on and off since 1420.

This marked the start of hostilities between Hunyadi on one side and Vlad Dracul and his eldest son on the other.

After freeing him, they continue on with the mission and finally catch up to Vlad.

In an October 31, 2010 interview on Conspiracy Worldwide Radio, Twista discussed his new documentary, directed by Vlad Yudin and the making of The Perfect Storm, including his belief that artists need to do more than just record songs and that they need to become more involved with the community around them.

A documentary film, titled " Mr. Immorality: The Life and Times of Twista ", was directed by Vlad Yudin and released through EMI Label Group on January 11, 2011 and is based on Twista's life and music in Chicago.

To prevent Wallachia from falling into the Hungarian fold, the Ottomans invaded Wallachia and put young Vlad III on the throne.

Later that year, in 1459, Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II sent envoys to Vlad to urge him to pay a delayed Jizya ( tax on non-Muslims ) of 10, 000 ducats and 500 recruits into the Ottoman forces.

Vlad had the Turkish envoys killed on the pretext that they had refused to raise their " hats " to him, by nailing their turbans to their heads.
