He is best known for his novels about the assassin Vlad Taltos.

There are two series set in the world of Dragaera, namely The Khaavren Romances and The Vlad Taltos novels.

* In 1986, Steven Brust was a Guest of Honor at the Per Ardua Ad Astra science fiction convention in Toronto, and he contributed the Vlad Taltos short story " A Dream of Passion " to the convention chapbook.

The Vlad Taltos series is set on what is apparently another planet, in an Empire mostly inhabited and ruled by the Dragaerans, who are humanoid but have such differences as greatly extended lifespans and heights averaging about 7 feet.

The Vlad Taltos series is set in a fantastical world of magic, at a time directly following a 1, 000-year interregnum wherein magic was impossible.

Jhereg is the name of the first novel in the Vlad Taltos series, which was published in 1983.

The House of the Jhereg is the Dragaeran Noble House to which Vlad Taltos belongs.

In addition to its unique architecture, the castle is famous because of persistent myths that it was once the home of Vlad III Dracula.

In the English-speaking world, Vlad is best known for the exceedingly cruel punishments he imposed during his reign and for serving as the primary inspiration for the vampire main character in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.

* Alexandru I Aldea is replaced as ruler of Wallachia by Vlad II Dracul.

* August 20 – Vladislav II, reigning Prince of Wallachia, is killed in battle by Vlad III Dracula, who succeeds him.

* Vlad II Dracul is temporarily replaced as ruler of Wallachia by his son Mircea.

Vlad also practices the human art of witchcraft ; " táltos " is Hungarian for a kind of supernatural person in folklore.

Brust has written thirteen novels in the series, which is proposed to run to nineteen novels — one named for each of the Great Houses, one named for Vlad himself, and a final novel which Brust has said will be titled The Final Contract.

The first section reads like the first three novels in the series, with a first-person narration by Vlad but including Khaavren ’ s son, Piro ; the second section has a different viewpoint character in each of its chapters ; and the third section is narrated by Paarfi in the style of the earlier Khaavren Romances, with Khaavren as the viewpoint character and interacting with Vlad.

An even earlier example of a puppet state ( as well as a vassal state ) is Wallachia, which was partially de facto ruled by the Ottoman Empire from 1462 when Radu the Handsome was placed on the throne after his older brother Vlad III was banished from Wallachia and interned by Hungary.

The character of Count Dracula is thought by some to be based upon, Vlad Dracula III ' ( Vlad the Impaler ).

Sebastian is revealed to be Radu Cel Frumos, the brother of Vlad the Impaler, Dracula.

Later writings about the case have led to legendary accounts of the Countess bathing in the blood of virgins to retain her youth and subsequently also to comparisons with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia, on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based, and to modern nicknames of the Blood Countess and Countess Dracula.

* Vlad — the black-clad, pale-skinned leader of the Merovingian's vampires ; he is killed by Niobe, who stabs him through the heart with a wooden stake.

During the 15th century, Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, is credited as the first notable figure to prefer this method of execution during the late medieval period, and became so notorious for its liberal employment that among his several nicknames he was known as Vlad the Impaler.

In the show Danny Phantom Danny is often seen calling Vlad Masters / Plasmius a " Fruit Loop ".

* In Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, Saint George is chronicled as being the saint who killed Vlad Tepesh ( also known as Dracula, which means " son of the dragon " or " son of the devil ").

Another youth Mehmed found attractive, and who was presumably more accommodating, was Radu III the Fair, the brother of the famous Vlad the Impaler, “ Radu, a hostage in Istanbul whose good looks had caught the Sultan ’ s fancy, and who was thus singled out to serve as one of his most favored pages .” After the defeat of Vlad, Mehmed placed Radu on the throne of Wallachia as a vassal ruler.

On October 10 near Nicopolis, some 7, 000 Wallachian cavalrymen under Mircea II, one of Vlad Dracul's sons, also joined.

He was the one who directly beheaded Vlad Tsepish, turning him into the Headless Horseman.

All of these would at one time or the other rule Wallachia, with Mircea II and Vlad Ţepeş both being able military commanders ( the latter would eventually become one of the most notorious leaders in history, and the inspiration for the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker ).

After Ender masters the game under ordinary conditions, the game changes from one with direct control of ships to one where he relays commands to others-his friends and associates from Battle School, namely, Julian " Bean " Delphiki, Alai, Shen, Petra Arkanian, Dink Meeker, Crazy Tom, Hot Soup, Fly Molo, Vlad, Dumper, and Carn Carby.

Vlad Călugărul was the product of Vlad and one of his mistresses, a Wallachian noblewoman called Călţuna.

This marked the start of hostilities between Hunyadi on one side and Vlad Dracul and his eldest son on the other.

Some claim that Vlad and Vashanesh are one and the same, but none can confirm this.

Vlad IV Călugărul, ( believed born prior to 1425 – September, 1495 ) translated as Vlad the Monk, was the pious half-brother of Vlad III ( Vlad the Impaler, or Dracula ), and one of many rulers of Wallachia during the 15th century.

Bucharest was first mentioned on September 20, 1459, as one of the residences of Prince Vlad III Dracula.

It is documented that Vlad had two other children, one being named Vlad, but in the film, the viewer is only educated about the existence of one son ; the son of Vlad Dracula's first wife, which in history is Mihnea.

Tepes was the surname of Vlad Tepes, the human name of Dracula.

Vlad's jhereg familiar, Loiosh, has learned to appreciate the subtleties of human behavior and society through his telepathic link to Vlad.

Tourists are told that it was the place where Vlad III of Wallachia ( commonly known as Vlad the Impaler ) was held prisoner by János Hunyadi, Hungary's military leader and regent during the King's minority, for 7 years after Vlad was deposed in 1462.

One famous ruler in this period was Vlad III the Impaler ( also known as Vlad Dracula or ), Prince of Wallachia in 1448, 1456 – 62, and 1476.

Ţepeş was a notorious 15th century Wallachian ( Romanian ) warlord, or " Voivode ", also known as Vlad Ţepeş '.

France also has a large black metal movement, including Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Peste Noire, Vorkreist, Arkhon Infaustus, Merrimack and Antaeus, and the organization known as Les Légions Noires made up of such bands as Mutiilation, Vlad Tepes and Torgeist.

At times Matthias had Vlad III the Impaler ( his second degree cousin, known to Romanians as Vlad Țepeș ), Prince of Wallachia, as his allied.

( Saberhagen depicts Dracula as the historical figure Vlad Ţepeş, who as woiwode of Wallachia was known as Drakulya, who in Saberhagen's stories became a vampire by simply refusing to die, " by a transcendent act of will " as the character describes it in the book.

Radu III the Fair, Radu III the Handsome or Radu III the Beautiful (), also known by his Turkish name Radu Bey ( 1435 – 1475 ), was the younger brother of Vlad Ţepeş and voivode ( prince ) of the principality of Wallachia.

Vlad II ( c. 1393 – December 1447 ), known as Vlad Dracul (), was a voivode () of Wallachia.

He was the father of Mircea II, Vlad Călugărul (), Vlad III Dracula, who became posthumously known by the epithet Ţepeş (), and Radu III the Beautiful.

Vlad II Dracul was a member of the House of Drăculeşti lineage, and son of Mircea cel Bătrân, and was known to have murdered members of the rival princely House of Dăneşti, a not-so-distant relation to his own father's House of Basarab, and gained power in Wallachia, upon returning from exile in Transylvania in 1436.

In some later books and movies Stoker's Count Dracula was conflated with the historical Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad III the Impaler ( 1431 – 1476 ), who though most likely born in the Transylvanian city of Sighișoara, ruled over neighboring Wallachia.

Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia ( 1431 – 1476 ), was a member of the House of Drăculești, a branch of the House of Basarab, also known by his patronymic name: Dracula.
