Follow the Leader marked the first album where the majority of the lyrics did not have origins relating to early occurrences, with songs like " Justin " and " Pretty " written about incidents occurring during adulthood.

In 1991 Jon Bon Jovi he started his own label, Jambco Records, and produced Aldo Nova's album Blood on the Bricks and Billy Falcon's album Pretty Blue World.

Hole achieved considerable commercial and critical success throughout the 1990s, initially releasing singles through independent labels in L. A. and debuting with their caustic noise rock-influenced Pretty on the Inside ( 1991 ), and later gaining near-unanimous critical acclaim with their 1994 album Live Through This.

The album, titled Pretty on the Inside, was released in August 1991 to positive reception from underground critics, branded " loud, ugly and deliberately shocking ", and earning a spot on Spins " 20 Best Albums of the Year " list.
