* 1912 – Harriet Quimby becomes the first woman to fly an airplane across the English Channel.

* 1903 – German engineer Karl Jatho allegedly flies his self-made, motored gliding airplane four months before the first flight of the Wright brothers.

" The Chicago Daily Tribune called it “ One of the most spectacular crimes of the 20th century, and what is believed to be the first airplane kidnap murder on record .” Because it occurred somewhere over three Missouri counties, and involved interstate transport of a stolen airplane, it raised questions in legal circles about where, by whom, and even whether he could be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the synchronization gear ( called the Stangensteuerung in German, for " pushrod control system ") devised by the engineers of Anthony Fokker's firm was the first system to see production contracts, and would make the Fokker Eindecker monoplane a feared name over the Western Front, despite its being an adaptation of an obsolete pre-war French Morane-Saulnier racing airplane, with a mediocre performance and poor flight characteristics.

Kites were also instrumental in the research and development of the Wright brothers when building the first airplane in the late 1800s.

* 1911 – The destroyer makes the first airplane rescue at sea saving the life of James McCurdy 10 miles from Havana, Cuba.

* 1943 – World War II: Franklin D. Roosevelt becomes the first President of the United States to travel via airplane while in office when he travels from Miami, Florida to Morocco to meet with Winston Churchill.

On 24 November 1943, the first military airplane, a Dakota of the Royal Air Force ( R. A. F ) coming from Nairobi with a stopover at Madagascar, landed in Plaisance.

* 1912 – Albert Berry makes the first parachute jump from a moving airplane.

* 1949 – Captain James Gallagher lands his B-50 Superfortress Lucky Lady II in Fort Worth, Texas after completing the first non-stop around-the-world airplane flight in 94 hours and one minute.

* 2005 – Steve Fossett becomes the first person to fly an airplane non-stop around the world solo without refueling.

* 1911 – The first dropping of a bomb from an airplane in combat, during the Italo-Turkish War.

* 1910 – Former President Theodore Roosevelt becomes the first U. S. president to fly in an airplane.

* 1947 – Captain Chuck Yeager of the U. S. Air Force flies a Bell X-1 rocket-powered experimental aircraft, the Glamorous Glennis, faster than the speed of sound-over the high desert of Southern California-and becomes the first pilot and the first airplane to do so in level flight.

* 1906 – Alberto Santos-Dumont flies an airplane in the first heavier-than-air flight in Europe at Champs de Bagatelle, Paris, France.

Built with the PowerPC G4 processor, it was billed as " the first supercomputer you can actually take with you on an airplane.

* 1912 – Corporal Frank S. Scott of the United States Army becomes the first enlisted man to die in an airplane crash.

* 1913 – Roland Garros of France becomes the first to fly in an airplane across the Mediterranean from St. Raphael France to Bizerte, Tunisia in 7 hours 54 minutes.

He becomes the first airplane fatality.

* The first airplane was flown in 1903.

* September 17 – At Ft. Myer, Virginia, U. S. A. Thomas Selfridge becomes the first person to die in an airplane crash.

One must first detect a fleeting mobile or moving target, decide that it is worthy of destruction, select the missile to be fired against the target, compute ballistics for the flight, and prepare the missile for firing.

The photograph, Figure 1 of the completed frieze, shows how, having been separated from his fellows in useless isolation for eighty years, he has now been given a hand, and by juxtaposition ( and the permission of the Committee ), given a new job, to represent the witnesses of the first flight at Kitty Hawk in 1903.

It was probably man's first successful flight in a missile.

* 1939 – First flight of the turbojet-powered Heinkel He 178, the world's first jet aircraft.

* 1908 – Wilbur Wright makes his first flight at a racecourse at Le Mans, France.

It is the Wright Brothers ' first public flight.

The first manned flight of Apollo was in 1968 and it succeeded in landing the first humans on Earth's Moon in 1969 through 1972.

Lowell Smith and Lt. John P. Richter performed the first mid-air refueling on De Havilland DH-4B, setting an endurance flight record of 37 hours.
