Gaius Asinius Pollio ( sometimes wrongly called Pollius or Philo ) ( Teate Marrucinorum-currently Chieti in Abruzzi 75 BC – AD 4 ) was a Roman soldier, politician, orator, poet, playwright, literary critic and historian, whose lost contemporary history, provided much of the material for the historians Appian and Plutarch.

One important reference to Scipio Nasica ’ s participation in politics is as a mysterious “ Cornelius ” by the historian Appian.

The Roman historian, Appian, mentions Chaonia as the southern border in his description and geography of Illyria.

The city was heavily fortified and according to the Greek historian Appian, had thick and towering walls that stood 25 meters high, providing a formidable defense against a prolonged siege.

Unlike most other Illyrian kings of which there is only sparse data, Scerdilaidas is mentioned in the writings of the historian Appian, Livy and Polybius, and in their chronicles of the Roman and Greek wars.

In ancient China, large canals for river transport were established as far back as the Warring States ( 481 – 221 BC ), the longest one of that period being the Hong Gou ( Canal of the Wild Geese ), which according to the ancient historian Sima Qian connected the old states of Song, Zhang, Chen, Cai, Cao, and Wei.

The Roman-Jewish historian Flavius Josephus states that three of the seven lamps were allowed to burn during the day also ; however, according to the Talmud ( Rashi, Tractate Shabbat 22b ), only the center lamp was left burning all day, into which as much oil was put as into the others.

The 4th century church historian Eusebius, however, states in his Chronicon that Sixtus I was pope from 114 to 124, while his Historia Ecclesiastica, using a different list, claims that Sixtus ' rule was from 114 to 128.

Likewise, the 20th century historian Zoltan J. Kosztolnyik states that " it seems more than unlikely that Rome would have acted in fulfilling Stephen's request for a crown without the support and approval of the emperor.

" Lutheran church historian Augustus Neander states " The festival of Sunday, like all other festivals, was always only a human ordinance ".

The 8th Century English historian Bede disagrees with Gildas, and states that the Saxon invasions continued after the battle of Mons Badonicus, including also Jutish and Anglic expeditions, resulting in a swift overrunning of the entirety of South-Eastern Britain, and the foundation of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.

However, art historian Sarane Alexandrian ( 1970 ) states, " the death of André Breton in 1966 marked the end of Surrealism as an organized movement.

Hisham Ibn Al-Kalbi, a 19th century Arab historian, states that al-Hind and al-Sind are of Ophir, the son of Joktan.

An early 19th-century historian wrote that the Tuscarora traditionally were said to occupy the " country lying between the sea shores and the mountains, which divide the Atlantic states ," in which they had 24 large towns and could muster 6, 000 warriors, probably meaning persons.

The historian H. C. G. Matthew states that Gladstone's chief legacy lay in three areas: his financial policy ; his support for Home Rule ( devolution ) that modified the view of the unitary state of the United Kingdom ; and his idea of a progressive, reforming party broadly-based and capable of accommodating and conciliating varying interests, along with his speeches at mass public meetings.

The art historian Douglas Cooper states that Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne " were particularly influential to the formation of Cubism and especially important to the paintings of Picasso during 1906 and 1907 ".

The person executed may have been attached to the cross by rope, though nails are mentioned in a passage by the Judean historian Josephus, where he states that at the Siege of Jerusalem ( 70 ), " the soldiers out of rage and hatred, nailed those they caught, one after one way, and another after another, to the crosses, by way of jest.

The historian Timothy Brook, in his The Confusions of Pleasure: Commerce and Culture in Ming China, states that the Ming census was inaccurate, as China in the late 14th century had at least 65, 000, 000 inhabitants, if not 75, 000, 000.

The 12th century Quadripartitus, in an account regarded as convincing by historian John Maddicott, states that he was recalled by the intervention of Bishop Ælfwine of Winchester and Earl Godwin.

As historian Patricia Ebrey states of the Song period scholar-officials:

The traditions of the Yule log died out in Britain in the latter 19th and early 20th century because of, according to historian Ronald Hutton, " the reduction in farm labour and the disappearance of the old-fashioned open hearths ", however the Bûche de Noël dessert has become a Christmas tradition in the UK, as in many French speaking places.

According to the First Century Roman historian Tacitus, she died by poisoning herself so she would not be enslaved by the Roman governor, Suetonius Paulinus.

Writer and blues historian Ted Drozdowski has told a different version of the story, stating that Turner's father died in an industrial accident.

In addition, Irving was influenced to embrace Holocaust denial by the American historian Arno J. Mayer's 1988 book Why Did the Heavens Not Darken ?, which did not deny the Holocaust, but claimed that most of those who died at Auschwitz were killed by disease ; Irving saw in Mayer's book an apparent confirmation of Leuchter's and Zündel's theories about no mass murder at Auschwitz.
