An abugida ( from Ge ‘ ez አቡጊዳ ’ äbugida ), also called an alphasyllabary, is a segmental writing system in which consonant – vowel sequences are written as a unit: each unit is based on a consonant letter, and vowel notation is secondary.

In a letter to Bishop Maximilian of Syracuse, Gregory states his intention for his Dialogues, saying they are a kind of floretum ( an anthology, literally, ‘ flowers ’) of the most striking miracles of Italian holy men.

* " uu ", an old way of spelling the letter " w " in certain Germanic languages ( e. g. the Merseburg Incantations spell the name of the god Woden as Uuôdan ).

The shift from the ligature ‹ vv › to the distinct letter ‹ w › is thus gradual, and is only apparent in abecedaria, explicit listings of all individual letters.

One convention is to append the letter " w " to the end of the raster filename:

However, many write " Djehuty ", inserting the letter ' e ' automatically between consonants in Egyptian words, and writing ' w ' as ' u ', as a convention of convenience for English speakers, not the transliteration employed by Egyptologists.
