The German metal band van Canto uses vocal noises to imitate guitars on covers of well-known rock and metal songs ( such as " Master of Puppets " by Metallica ) as well as original compositions.

American heavy metal band, Metallica has run " The Ecstasy of Gold " as prelude music at their concerts since 1985 ( except 1996 – 1998 ), and recently recorded a version of the instrumental for a compilation tribute to Morricone.

Others who acknowledge Norman's influence on their career or music include American drummer Hilly Michaels, who recorded with Norman and Randy Stonehill in 1970 ; Grammy Award-winning recording artist and rapper TobyMac, who described Norman as " socially relevant, spiritually significant and passionate about challenging his generation to new heights of love ", considered Norman his " greatest lyrical influence "; Mark Salomon, the lead singer of Christian metal band Stavesacre and thrash metal band The Crucified, who reveals that it was Norman's concert performance that connected him to Christian music ; and Welsh singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph.

Blue Cheer was an American heavy metal band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009.

Japan is known for being a successful area for metal bands touring around the world and many live albums are recorded in Japan.

In 1990, thrash metal band Anthrax recorded a cover version of Jackson's " Got the Time " for their Persistence of Time album.

Many up and coming bands in the metal genre cover songs by their predecessors to gain public interest, although more established bands have also recorded covers.

The Norwegian black metal band Mayhem have recorded several Venom covers, while Mayhem themselves have been covered many times: their song " Deathcrush " has been covered around 140 times, according to Encyclopaedia Metallum.

The music has been sampled and recorded by many singers and groups, ranging from R & B / pop singers such as Janet Jackson to nu metal band Korn and hip hop groups like TLC.

In the early days, Norwegian black metal songs were recorded on four-track tapes, but in recent times, the music has become more sophisticated.

The album features some ballad highlights, such as " Don't Be Afraid of the Dark ", " Ten Lovers ", and " Come in from the Rain ", together with a few straightforward hard rock songs, including " Hard Times ", " City ", " Surrender ", and the fastest track Y & T ever recorded, the speed metal song " Goin ' Off the Deep End ".

Cynic recorded a complex, unorthodox form of jazz-fusion-influenced experimental death metal with their 1993 album Focus.
