There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Algeria including Al Qal ' a of Beni Hammad, the first capital of the Hammadid empire ; Tipasa, a Phoenician and later Roman town ; and Djémila and Timgad, both Roman ruins ; M ' Zab Valley, a limestone valley containing a large urbanized oasis ; also the Casbah of Algiers is an important citadel.

The ruins of this monastery are still to be seen in Bunnacurry today.

It encloses a mass of ruins conspicuous in which are a fine triumphal arch, the colonnades of two streets, a gymnasium, etc.

The remains of the acropolis fortifications are very interesting, including roads and ditches hewn in the rock ; but beyond ruins of two churches, a gatehouse, and a fine keep built by Thoros I There are no notable structures in the upper town.

Another theory is that the ruins of Akkad are to be found beneath modern Baghdad.

Its ancient cult of Aphrodite was the most important, after Paphos, in Cyprus, her homeland, though the ruins of Amathus are less well-preserved than neighboring Kourion.

Some important Roman ruins are exposed under the Plaça del Rei, its entrance located by the city museum ( Museu d ' Història de la Ciutat ); the typically Roman grid plan is still visible today in the layout of the historical centre, the Barri Gòtic (" Gothic Quarter ").

The Bank's original home was in Walbrook in the City of London, where during the building's reconstruction in 1954 archaeologists found the remains of a Roman temple of Mithras ( Mithras was – rather fittingly – worshipped as being the God of Contracts ); the Mithraeum ruins are perhaps the most famous of all twentieth-century Roman discoveries in the City of London and can now be viewed by the public.

* Preah Ko Style ( 877-886 AD ): Hariharalaya was the first capital city of the Khmer empire located in the area of Angkor ; its ruins are in the area now called Roluos some fifteen kilometers southeast of the modern city of Siem Reap.

The ruins that remain are of brick, sandstone and laterite, the wood elements having been lost to decay and other destructive processes.

The most extensive ruins are at Mỹ Sơn in Vietnam.
