The northern route is designated as Highway 11, and the southern branch is designated as Highway 17.

The existing northern branch goes east for to North Bay, where it meets the Highway 11 route.

From this date " Metropolitan line " refers only to the route from Aldgate to Baker Street and then northwards, through " Metro-land " to Amersham with a branch to Uxbridge.

Around 1994 the second branch was cut back to West Croydon as this route crossed the commuter networks of what were to become several different rail companies and the onset of rail privatisation made the route increasingly difficult to maintain.

The solution was now a new branch of the Bakerloo line from Baker Street to serve St John's Wood and Swiss Cottage, thereby rendering the existing stations of Lord's, Marlborough Road and Swiss Cottage on the parallel route redundant, and negating the need for the Met's extension from Edgware Road station ( it should be noted, however, that Swiss Cottage ( Metropolitan ) was proposed to remain open during peak hours for interchange with the Bakerloo, and that Lord's station would further open for special cricketing events.

At present there are no plans to construct this branch route.

Interstate 393 is a spur highway leading east from Concord and merging with U. S. Route 4 as a direct route to New Hampshire's seacoast.

The section of Route 3 between Wimbledon and West Croydon follows the old single-track British Rail route for the most part, which was closed on 31 May 1997 so that it could be converted for Tramlink.

One example of this type of route would be Metro Transit Route 114 in Minneapolis, MN.

For example, Metro Transit Route 12 in Minneapolis, to aid commute times for downtown workers, will during peak hours operate as non-stop for approximately 8 blocks between Franklin Avenue and Uptown Transit Station, when normally the route serves all stops along that section.

In 1999, the National Route 66 Preservation Bill allocated $ 10 million in matching fund grants to individuals, corporations and communities preserving or restoring historic properties along that route.

Access to the North Rim via the primary route leading to the canyon ( State Route 67 ) is limited during the winter season due to road closures.

An interesting variation of the route cipher was the Union Route Cipher, used by Union forces during the American Civil War.
