In 1998, Billy Gould produced the album Vainajala ( 1998 ) by the Finnish rock band CMX, " Living Targets " by German band The Beatsteaks, " FUCC the INS ", " Kultura Diktatura ", " We Came to Take Your Jobs Away " by Kultur Shock.

* Ayn Rand, We, the Living ( 1936 )

Rand began The Fountainhead ( originally titled Second-Hand Lives ) following the completion in 1934 of her first novel, We the Living.

Rand's intention was to write a novel that was less overtly political than We the Living, to avoid being " considered a ' one-theme ' author ".

She also completed a stage adaptation of We the Living that ran briefly in early 1940.

Macmillan Publishing, which had published We the Living, rejected the book after Rand insisted that they must provide more publicity for her new novel than they did for the first one.

This interpretation has been taken up by several Christian authors and preachers since then ( such as Hal Lindsey's The Late Great Planet Earth ; Grant R. Jeffrey's Armageddon: Appointment with Destiny ; M. R. De Haan's The Signs of the Times ; Tim LaHaye's Are We Living in the End Times?

Both had handled her previous novel, We the Living.

Roots of this movement can perhaps be traced to some of Bradford Angier's books, such as At Home in the Woods ( 1951 ) and We Like it Wild ( 1963 ), or perhaps even more compellingly to the 1954 publication of Helen and Scott Nearing's book, Living the Good Life.

Rickie Lee Jones ' critically acclaimed album Pirates and songs such as " We Belong Together " and " Living It Up " are reminiscent of early Laura Nyro songs, and Jones acknowledged Nyro's influence.

Rand observes in the foreword to this book that We the Living was the closest she would ever come to writing an autobiography.

We the Living was first completed in 1934, but, despite support from H. L. Mencken, who deemed it " a really excellent piece of work ," it was rejected by several publishers until 1936, when George Platt Brett of Macmillan Publishing agreed to publish her book.

We the Living was not a commercial success when it was published in 1936.

When Rand's final novel, Atlas Shrugged, became a best-seller, Random House decided to republish We the Living.

Nearly everyone who reads We the Living today reads the second edition.

Without Rand's permission, We the Living, which had been published in an Italian translation in 1937, was made into a two-part film, Noi Vivi and Addio, Kira in 1942.

This version was approved by Rand and her estate and re-released as We the Living in 1986.
