In 1980 Jeff Lynne was asked to write for the soundtrack of the musical film Xanadu, with the other half written by John Farrar and performed by the film's star Olivia Newton-John.

The Xanadu soundtrack album and former ABC artist Steely Dan's Gaucho were the first $ 9. 98 list albums.

This film starred Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John and was widely considered a big-budget flop, but its soundtrack spawned several hit singles for Ms. Newton-John, such as the # 1 hit " Magic ", a duet with Cliff Richard called " Suddenly ", and, with Electric Light Orchestra accompaniment, the title song " Xanadu ".

Geddy would use this double neck live for Xanadu, as well as a white 4080 / 6 for A Passage to Bangkok, all throughout the " Kings " tour in 1977 – 78, until retiring it at the end of the " Moving Pictures " Tour in 1981.

However, Dredd caught up with the Angel Gang on Xanadu and he was prepared to kill them all in his quest for the Judge Child.

He returns to Xanadu and becomes a recluse, living alone and remaining estranged from all his friends.

The set includes songs featured from all 11 studio albums up to that point, including an edit of " Great Balls of Fire " from their live album The Night the Light Went On in Long Beach, plus some new recordings amongst the bands extensive back catalog, most notably a reworking of Lynne's only UK number one hit " Xanadu ".

With help from Madame Xanadu, they manage to cure their blinded teammates and, despite all their recent troubles, the Shadowpact now find themselves in a stronger position in the magical order.

Xanadu has raised considerable interest in Scientists after its radar image showed its terrain to be quite similar to earth's terrain with flowing river ( probably of methane and ethane, not of water as they are in Earth ), mountains ( of ice, not rock ) and sand dunes.

In 1967, while working for Harcourt, Brace, he named his project Xanadu, in honour of the poem " Kubla Khan " by Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Xanadu was visited by the Venetian traveler Marco Polo in about 1275, and in 1797 inspired a famous poem, Kubla Khan, by one of the leading English poets of the Romanticism movement, Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Unfortunately Coleridge's writing was interrupted by an unnamed " man from Porlock ," causing him to forget much of the dream, but his images of Xanadu became one of the best-known poems in the English language.

Thanks to a poem by Coleridge, Xanadu became a metaphor for splendor and opulence.
