Anthony Joseph " Tony " Celebrezze Jr. ( September 8, 1941 – July 4, 2003 ) was an American politician of the Democratic party, who served as Ohio Attorney General, Ohio Secretary of State and an Ohio State Senator.

He was the son of Anthony J. Celebrezze Sr.

Celebrezze was born to Anthony Celebrezze and Anne M. Celebrezze in 1941.

Celebrezze and his wife, the former Louisa Godwin, had five children: Anthony J. III, Catherine, Charles, David, and Maria ( Celebrezze ) McBride.

Celebrezze was the father of Anthony J. Celebrezze III and the cousin of Ohio appeals court judge Frank D. Celebrezze, III.

Anthony Joseph Celebrezze, Sr. ( born Antonio Giuseppe Cilibrizzi, ; September 4, 1910 – October 29, 1998 ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party, who served as the 49th mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, as a cabinet member in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and as a U. S. appeals court judge.

Celebrezze and his wife Anne had three children: Anthony J. Celebrezze Jr., Jean Ann ( Celebrezze ) Porto, and Susan Marie ( Celebrezze ) Sullivan.

Celebrezze Jr. and Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations Judge Leslie Ann Celebrezze, the grandfather of Anthony J. Celebrezze III ( son of Anthony Jr .).

It became the expectation — rather than the exception — that those in the public eye should write about themselves — not only writers such as Charles Dickens ( who also incorporated autobiographical elements in his novels ) and Anthony Trollope, but also politicians ( e. g. Henry Brooks Adams ), philosophers ( e. g. John Stuart Mill ), churchmen such as Cardinal Newman, and entertainers such as P. T. Barnum.

Taking these words quite literally, Anthony gave away some of the family estate to his neighbors, sold the remaining property, donated the funds thus raised to the poor, placed his sister with a group of Christian virgins, a sort of proto-monastery of nuns, and himself became the disciple of a local hermit.

Saint Anthony decided to follow this tradition and headed out into the alkaline Nitrian Desert region ( which became the location of the noted monasteries of Nitria, Kellia and Scetis ), about west of Alexandria, on the edge of the Western Desert.

There, Anthony is credited with assisting in a number of miraculous healings, primarily from ergotism, which became known as " St. Anthony's Fire ".

He became known as Anton der Gütige, ( en: " Anthony the Kind ").

In 2002 he endorsed Anthony A. Williams for a second term as mayor despite a petitioning scandal that had made Williams a write-in candidate.
