It was first published in March 1830 by Joseph Smith as The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi.

Since 1830 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has identified the Book of Mormon as the " record of the stick of Ephraim " () while the stick of Judah is identified with the Bible.

Smith published what he said was a translation of these plates in March 1830 as the Book of Mormon, named after Mormon, the ancient prophet-historian who compiled the book, and on April 6, 1830, Smith founded the Church of Christ.

" By 1830, Smith reported that he had been instructed that God would use him to re-establish the true Christian church and that the Book of Mormon would be the means of establishing correct doctrine for the restored church.

The Book of Mormon would be published in Palmyra in 1830.

Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the movement, published the Book of Mormon in 1830 as a translation of these golden plates.

According to the Hastings Gazette, ( April 6, 1878, page 4, column 5 ) and the Holy Rosary Parish Book Committee: Nicholas Friedrich Wilhelm Kranz ( 1841 – 1925 ) along with his brothers Johann Kranz ( 1832 – 1916 ), Mathais Kranz ( 1830 – 1921 ), and Paul Ferdinand Kranz ( 1832 – 1892 ) came from Dakota County on March 1878 looking for a place to settle.

To that end, Larson carefully examined the Original Manuscript ( the one dictated by Joseph Smith to his scribes ) and the Printer ’ s Manuscript ( the copy Oliver Cowdery prepared for the Printer in 1829 – 1830 ), and compared them with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd editions of the Book of Mormon to determine what sort of changes had occurred over time and to make judgments as to which readings were the most original.

As early as the publication of the Book of Mormon in 1830, LDS doctrine maintained that polygamy was allowable so long as it was commanded by God.

In 1830 the village was the site of the first publication of the Book of Mormon at the printing press of local publisher E. B. Grandin.

The title page of the book reads " Book of Commandments, for the government of the Church of Christ, organized according to the law on the 6th of April, 1830.

By comparison, the 1830 first edition of the Book of Mormon sells for about $ 100, 000.

Since the publication of the Book of Mormon in 1830, both Mormon and non-Mormon archaeologists have studied its claims in reference to known archaeological evidence.

Organized informally in 1829 in northwestern New York and then as a legal entity on April 6, 1830, it was the first organization to implement the principles found in Smith's newly published Book of Mormon, and thus represents the formal beginning of the Latter Day Saint movement.

For example, a headnote to the earliest known version of chapter XXII of the Book of Commandments says that the revelation was dictated in Fayette on April 6, 1830, after the church was organized.
