Carl Auer Freiherr von Welsbach ( 1 September 1858 – 4 August 1929 ) was an Austrian scientist and inventor who had a talent for not only discovering advances, but turning them into commercially successful products.

# Margarete Karoline Fredericka Cecilie Auguste Amalie Josephine Elisabeth Maria Johanna ( b. Dresden, 24 May 1840 – d. Monza, 15 September 1858 ), known as Margarete ; married on 4 November 1856 to Archduke Carl Ludwig of Austria, her cousin.

Carl Gustaf Mosander ( Kalmar 10 September 1797 – Lovön, Stockholm County 15 October 1858 ) was a Swedish chemist.

He was the son of Swedish actor and theater director Carl Ludwig Lund ( 1858 – 1893 ).

As a professor of anatomy at the University of Jena ( 1855 – 1873 ) and at the University of Heidelberg ( 1873 – 1903 ), Carl Gegenbaur was a strong supporter of Charles Darwin's theory of organic evolution, having taught and worked, beginning in 1858, with Ernst Haeckel, 8 years his junior.

In 1858, the physician Ernst Haeckel studied under Carl Gegenbaur at Jena, receiving a doctorate in zoology ( after his medical degree ), and became a professor at the same institution, the University of Jena ( see: Ernst Haeckel ).
