Carl Philipp Gottfried von Clausewitz (; July 1, 1780 – November 16, 1831 ) was a Prussian soldier and military theorist who stressed the moral ( in modern terms, " psychological ") and political aspects of war.

Clausewitz's Christian names are sometimes given in non-German sources as " Carl Philipp Gottlieb " or " Carl Maria ", because of reliance on mistaken source material, conflation with his wife's name, Marie, or mistaken assumptions about German orthography.

" Carl Philipp Gottfried " appears on Clausewitz's tombstone and thus is most likely to be correct.

J. S. Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was a great proponent of the instrument, and most of his German contemporaries regarded it as a central keyboard instrument, for performing, teaching, composing and practicing.

Telemann was one of the most prolific composers in history ( at least in terms of surviving oeuvre ) and was considered by his contemporaries to be one of the leading German composers of the time — he was compared favorably both to his friend Johann Sebastian Bach, who made Telemann the godfather and namesake of his son Carl Philipp Emanuel, and to George Frideric Handel, whom Telemann also knew personally.

He was succeeded at his Hamburg post by Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach ( 8 March 1714 – 14 December 1788 ) was a German classical period musician and composer, the fifth child and second ( surviving ) son of Johann Sebastian Bach and Maria Barbara Bach.

He drew creative inspiration from his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann, then working in Hamburg, and from contemporaries like George Frideric Handel, Carl Heinrich Graun and Joseph Haydn.
