Adjectives derived from " United States " ( such as United Statesian ) are awkward in English, but similar constructions exist in Spanish ( estadounidense ), Portuguese ( estado-unidense, estadunidense ), Finnish ( yhdysvaltalainen: from Yhdysvallat, United States ), as well as in French ( états-unien ), and Italian ( statunitense ).

Spanish-style chorizo is also available, and is distinguished by the name " chorizo español " ( Spanish chorizo ).

Other traditional sandwiches include pan con timba ( bread with guayaba paste and cream cheese ), pan con chorizo also known as choripán ( Cuban bread with thin cut Spanish chorizo sausage ), and the frita.
