Route 34 northbound approaching the Garden State Parkway. Route 34 begins at an intersection with Route 35 and Route 70 in Wall Township, Monmouth County at the former Brielle Circle, heading to the northwest on a six-lane undivided road with a speed limit.

At the traffic circle, Route 34 turns northwest to form a concurrency with Route 33 on a four-lane divided highway with a speed limit of that passes businesses, crossing into Howell Township.

Route 34 northbound at the Allenwood Circle. Past this intersection, the road continues through areas of residences and farms before turning northwest into more residential surroundings and entering Marlboro Township.

The route continues northwest and crosses into Wall Township and meets Route 34 and Route 70 at the former Brielle Circle, now an at-grade intersection with jughandles.

Route 35 splits from Maple Avenue and heads to the northwest on a four-lane road, crossing the Navesink River into Middletown Township.

Past this interchange, the road crosses the Matawan Creek into Aberdeen Township, where it heads northwest through Cliffwood Beach.

The Victory Bridge ( New Jersey ) | Victory Bridge carries Route 35 over the Raritan River. Route 35 crosses the Whale Creek into Old Bridge Township, Middlesex County, where it continues northwest through businesses and residences in Laurence Harbor and Cliffwood Beach, both sections of Old Bridge Township.

It is drained by the Lehigh River except for a small area in western Packer Township and the borough of Lansford that are drained by the Still Creek and Panther Creek, respectively, into the Little Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill River, and the Audenried area in the northwest corner that drains into the Susquehanna River via the Catawissa Creek.

The major rivers of the county are the Great Miami River, which flows through the northwest corner of the county in Franklin Township, and the Little Miami River which zig-zags across the county from north to south.

To the northwest of Dillsboro, Scotts Creek, which flows from Scott Creek Township through Sylva Township into Dillsboro Township, empties into the Tuckasegee River.

Route 23 continues northwest and enters Montague Township, where the road heads into heavily forested High Point State Park, which is home to the highest elevation in New Jersey.

Route 55 continues northwest into Franklin Township, Gloucester County, and reaches a cloverleaf interchange with U. S. Route 40 ( US 40 ).

This name was derived from a grove of woods that ran through the northwest portion of the Township, which was named for three young women whose families lived adjacent to the grove: Sarah McChesney, Sarah Frisbe, and Sarah Smith.
