The Gregorian calculation of Easter was based on a method devised by the Calabrian doctor Aloysius Lilius ( or Lilio ) for adjusting the epacts of the moon, and has been adopted by almost all Western Christians and by Western countries who celebrate national holidays at Easter.

The Julian calendar has been replaced by the Gregorian calendar in all countries which formerly used it as the civil calendar.

While some Eastern Orthodox national churches have accepted the Gregorian calendar dates for feast days that occur on the same date every year, the dates of all movable feasts ( such as Easter ) are still calculated in the Eastern Orthodox churches by reference to the Julian calendar.

However, all Eastern Orthodox churches rejected this rule and continue to use the Julian calendar to determine the date of Easter ( except for the Finnish Orthodox Church and the Estonian Orthodox Church which now use the Gregorian Easter ).

The Julian calendar was used in Europe at the beginning of the millennium, and all countries that once used the Julian calendar had adopted the Gregorian calendar by the end of it.

Events were held on 6 April, 7 April, 9 April, and 10 April 1896 ( all dates are according to the Gregorian calendar ).

Instead of changing from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar by omitting a block of consecutive days as had been done in other countries, the Swedish Empire ( which included Finland at the time ) planned to change gradually by omitting all leap days for the entire period from 1700 to 1740 inclusive.

Most calendars displayed all the days of a Gregorian year as a grid with seven rows or columns for the traditional seven-day week with Sunday first.

Apparently to place the five national holidays between 30-day months since, Parise ( 1982 ) shifted Lenin's Day to, left two Days of the Proletariat on, and shifted two Days of the Revolution to and, plus ( all Gregorian dates ).

Stating that all months had 30 days between and, the Oxford Companion to the Year ( 1999 ) ' corrected ' Parise's list by specifying that " Lenin Day " was after ( Gregorian ), a two-day " Workers ' First of May " was after ( Gregorian ), two " Industry Days " were after ( Gregorian ), and placed the leap day after ( Gregorian ).

Fuller information on the naming of months will be found below, but it should be noted that the first month of the year was called Frawardin, and the first day of Frawardin was the ' New Year's Day ' or Nawruz ( also reckoned Now-Ruz, Nowruz, No Roz, No-Rooz, Norouz, or Navroz ), from which all other religious observances were reckoned-this day being, in theory, the day of the Northern vernal equinox, 21 March ( Gregorian ).
