* Expositio evangelii secundum Lucam ( Commentary on the Gospel according to Luke )

It is said to be that the author of the Gospel of Luke is the same as the author of the Acts of the Apostles.

The question regarding the genre of Acts is complicated by the fact that it was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke.

Evidence for this is found in the prologue to the Gospel of Luke, wherein the author alludes to his sources by writing, " Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

“ Acts, then is a continuation of the Lucan Gospel, not in the sense that it relates what Jesus continued to do, but how his followers carried out his commission under the guidance of his Spirit .” Thus, part of the answer to the purpose of Acts is that Luke is writing to Theophilus, who is also mentioned in Luke 1: 3, in order to explain to him the occurrences that take place in the church that fulfill Jesus ’ promise to his disciples that “ you will be baptized with, the Holy Spirit not many days from now ” ( Acts 1: 5 ).

The author opens with a prologue, usually taken to be addressed to an individual by the name of Theophilus ( though this name, which translates literally as " God-lover ", may be a nickname rather than a personal appellation ) and references " my earlier book "— almost certainly the Gospel of Luke.

As in the Gospel of Luke, there are numerous references to the Holy Spirit throughout Acts.

The Gospel of Luke and Acts both devote a great deal of attention to the oppressed and downtrodden.

Prayer is a major motif in both the Gospel of Luke and Acts.

The Gospel of Luke depicts prayer as a certain feature in Jesus's life.

This verse in the Olivet Discourse also occurs in the Gospel of Luke.

Altruism was central to the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel, especially in the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain.

According to the Gospel of Matthew, at the death of Jesus tombs were opened, and at his resurrection many saints who had died emerged from their tombs and went into " the holy city ", presumably New Jerusalem.

A similar confusion occurs in Gospel of Mark 2: 26: In reporting Jesus ' words, the evangelist confused Abiathar with Ahimelech, a mistake into which he was led by the constant association of David ‘ s name with Abiathar.

In the Gospel of John and in Revelation, Jesus is referred to as " the Word of God " (), although the context in Revelation is very different from John.

Ruth figures as one of four females named in the genealogy of Jesus at the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew ( Matthew 1: 1-17 ).

Contrary to the canonical Christian Gospels, and in accordance with the Islamic view of Jesus, this later " Gospel of Barnabas " states that Jesus was not the son of God, but a prophet and messenger.

The opening words in the Gospel of Mark, namely " The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God " also identify Jesus as both Christ and the Son of God.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus referred to himself as the Son of God far more frequently than in the Synoptic Gospels.

In the Gospel narratives that describe the life of Jesus, the first instance of him being called the Son of God appears during his Baptism by John the Baptist.

Jesus ' ministry, sacrificial death, and subsequent resurrection, are often referred to as the Gospel message (" good news ").

Christians call the message of Jesus Christ the Gospel (" good news ") and generally adhere to the Ten Commandments.

An additional hint may have been taken from the account of the Pool of Bethesda in the Gospel of John, in which Jesus heals a man at the pool in Jerusalem.

Marcion rejected three of the four Canonical gospels, constructing a canon consisting of only of a redacted Gospel of Luke which he called the Gospel of the Lord, and ten of the Pauline epistles.

One of the earliest attempts at solidifying a canon was made by Marcion, circa 140 AD, who accepted only a modified version of Luke ( the Gospel of Marcion ) and ten of Paul's letters, while rejecting the Old Testament entirely.

This is thought to be a reference to the census of Judea in 6 / 7 AD ; however, Luke also, like the Gospel of Matthew, dates the birth to the reign of Herod the Great, who died in 4 BC, ten years before the census of 6 or 7 AD.

His Great Gospel of John was published in ten volumes and frequently reprinted, the 8th edition dating to 1996.
