* 1947 – India gains Independence from the British Indian Empire and joins the Commonwealth of Nations.

The distinction of a Knight Commander of the Indian Empire was conferred upon him by Queen Victoria in 1897 ( and later Knight Grand Commander in 1902 by Edward VII ) and he received like recognition for his public services from the German Emperor, the Sultan of Turkey, the Shah of Persia and other potentates.

He was made a " Knight of the Indian Empire " by Queen Victoria, a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire by Edward VII ( 1902 ), and a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India by George V ( 1912 ).

The Detroit River — and the larger area surrounding it — was taken from the French by the British Empire during the French and Indian War and eventually claimed by the newly formed United States during the American Revolution.

The ports of south India were engaged in the Indian Ocean trade, chiefly involving spices, with the Roman Empire to the west and Southeast Asia to the east.

The Gupta Empire ( Sanskrit: ग ु प ् त र ा जव ं श, Gupta Rājavanśha ) was an Ancient Indian empire which existed approximately from 320 to 550 CE and covered much of the Indian Subcontinent.

Afghanistan became part of the Seleucid Empire after Alexander died, which formed an alliance with the Indian Maurya Empire.

All of the European colonies on the Indian subcontinent which were not part of the British Raj have been annexed by the Republic of India since it gained its independence from the British Empire.

Mughal territorial expansion reached its greatest extent, Aurangzeb's Empire encompassed the entire Indian Subcontinent.

The denial of equal status to Indians was the immediate stimulus for the formation in 1885 of the Indian National Congress, initially loyal to the Empire but committed from 1905 to increased self-government and by 1930 to outright independence.

* 1565 – Battle of Talikota, fought between the Vijayanagara Empire and the Islamic sultanates of the Deccan, leads to the subjugation, and eventual destruction of the last Hindu kingdom in India, and the consolidation of Islamic rule over much of the Indian subcontinent.

In order to bypass the Persian landroute, Justinian established friendly relations with the Abyssinians, whom he wanted to act as trade mediators by transporting Indian silk to the Empire ; the Abyssinians, however, were unable to compete with the Persian merchants in India.

This included the complete loss of his library containing books, documents and letters which documented his role in the Mormon War, Indian affairs, pro-slavery activities, Civil War activities and other legslation covering his career as a lawyer, senator and soldier.

Abu al-Rayhan al-Biruni ( 973 – 1048 CE ) was one of the earliest Muslim geologists, whose works included the earliest writings on the geology of India, hypothesizing that the Indian subcontinent was once a sea.

* Paramhansa Yogananda, the great Indian spiritual master, included " The Hound of Heaven " in one of his two albums, " Songs of My Heart ".

Instead of looking towards Persia, Babur was more focused on the Indian subcontinent, which included the region known as Kabulistan.

By the 1850s, the East India Company controlled most of the Indian sub-continent, which included present-day Pakistan and Bangladesh.
