The European Greenfinch, or just Greenfinch ( Carduelis chloris ), is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.

The seed, technically a fruit called an achene, is often sold as birdseed as it is a favourite of finches, especially the Goldfinch and the Greenfinch.

A number of bird species have been introduced by humans ; some, like the European Goldfinch and Greenfinch, coexist happily with Australian species, while others, such as the Common Starling, Common Blackbird, House Sparrow and Indian Mynah, are destructive of some native bird species and thus destabilise the native ecosystem.

Young birds also give a true song, especially in captivity, a warbling similar to that of the European Greenfinch.

The Greenfinch has also been introduced into both Australia and New Zealand.
