The Reichstag ( building ) | Reichstag is the seat of the German parliament.

Facing the Chancellery is the Bundestag, the German Parliament, housed in the renovated Reichstag building since the government moved back to Berlin in 1998.

The former Reichstag building housed a history exhibition ( Fragen an die deutsche Geschichte ) and served occasionally as a conference center.

The Reichstag building was also occasionally used as a venue for sittings of the Bundestag and its committees and the Bundesversammlung, the body which elects the German Federal President.

However the Soviets harshly protested against the use of the Reichstag building by institutions of the Federal Republic of Germany and tried to disturb the sittings by flying supersonic jets close to the building.

Since 1999, the German parliament has again assembled in Berlin in its original Reichstag building, which dates from the 1890s and underwent a significant renovation under the lead of British architect Sir Norman Foster.

Parliamentary committees and subcommittees, public hearings and faction meetings take place in three auxiliary buildings, which surround the Reichstag building: the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus, Paul-Löbe-Haus and Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus.

On the evening of 27 February 1933, a fire was set in the Reichstag building.

Less than a month later, the Reichstag building was set on fire.

The building plan had to be approved by the Reichstag, which controlled the allocation of funds, although one-quarter of the money came from French war reparations.

has thus not been used in official terminology since 1945, though it is still found in the name of the Reichstag building, which since 1999 has housed the German federal parliament, the Bundestag.

The decision not to rename the Reichstag building was taken only after long debate in the Bundestag ; even then, it is described officially as ( Reichstag, seat of the Bundestag ).

Potsdamer Platz (, literally Potsdam Square ) is an important public square and traffic intersection in the centre of Berlin, Germany, lying about one kilometre south of the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag ( German Parliament Building ), and close to the southeast corner of the Tiergarten park.

Reichstag is a German word which in political terms means Parliament but directly translated is Diet of the Realm or National Diet or Imperial Diet.

In addition, every scene in the play is based on a real event, for example the warehouse fire which represented the fire at the Reichstag, or the Dock Aid Scandal which represented the Osthilfeskandal ( East Aid ) scandal.

Regensburg, or Ratisbonne ( Ratisbon ) as the French and English called it for centuries, was, apart from hosting the Imperial Diet ( Holy Roman Empire ) | Reichstag, a most peculiar city: an officially Lutheran city that nevertheless was the seat of the Catholic prince-bishopric of Regensburg, its prince-bishop and cathedral chapter.

He was entitled to a vote, either by having a voting seat or being part of a voting unit, in the Reichstag.
