Myles Coverdale ( also spelt Miles Coverdale ) ( c. 1488 – 20 January 1569 ) was a 16th-century Bible translator who produced the first complete printed translation of the Bible into English.

He may also have printed the Matthew Bible of 1537 ( Herbert # 34 ), the combined work of William Tyndale, Myles Coverdale and John Rogers.

Since the discovery of Guido Latré in 1997, it is believed that Emanuel van Meteren's affidavit of 1609 refers to the printing of the Coverdale Bible in 1535, when his father employed Myles Coverdale as translator.

The translations of Myles Coverdale from German and Latin sources completed the Old Testament and the Apocrypha, except the Apocryphal Prayer of Manasses.

The remaining books of the Old Testament and the Apocrypha were the work of Myles Coverdale.

Myles Coverdale was employed by Cromwell to work on the Great Bible of 1539, the first officially authorized English translation of the Bible.

Among these scholars was William Whittingham, who supervised the translation now known as the Geneva Bible, in collaboration with Myles Coverdale, Christopher Goodman, Anthony Gilby, Thomas Sampson, and William Cole ; several of this group later became prominent figures in the Vestments controversy.

The English rendering was substantially based on the earlier translations by William Tyndale and Myles Coverdale ( more than 80 percent of the language in the Genevan Bible is from Tyndale ).

The Great Bible was prepared by Myles Coverdale, working under commission of Sir Thomas Cromwell, Secretary to Henry VIII and Vicar General.

The first complete printed translation into English, and the first complete translation into Modern English, was compiled by Myles Coverdale and published in 1535.

There appeared what is known as the Great Bible in 1539, also compiled by Myles Coverdale.

Yet scholars are scholars, and it shows some influence of the Genevan version ; and, indeed, of other English versions, especially that of Myles Coverdale.

The church had a series of distinguished Rectors in the second half of the 16th and first half of the 17th century, including Myles Coverdale ( Rector 1564-66 ), John Young ( Rector 1566-92 ), Theophilus Aylmer ( Rector 1592-1625 ), ( Archdeacon of London and son of John Aylmer ), and Cornelius Burges ( Rector 1626-41 ).
