Popular both as a Triple Crown champion and in retirement, Secretariat was mourned by millions and buried at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, given the rare honor of being buried whole ; usually only the head, heart, and hooves of a winning race horse are buried, and the rest of the body is cremated.

Secretariat was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1974, the year following his Triple Crown.

Ronald Joseph Morel Turcotte, CM ( born July 22, 1941 in Drummond, New Brunswick, Canada ) is a Hall of Fame thoroughbred race horse jockey best known as the rider of Secretariat, winner of the U. S. Triple Crown in 1973.

Caroline County is also home to The Meadow stables, the birthplace of the renowned racehorse Secretariat, winner of the 1973 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes ; the Triple Crown.

In 2010, Wallace directed Disney ’ s Secretariat, the true story of the racehorse that won the Triple Crown in 1973.

Secretariat, who holds the record for the fastest time in the Kentucky Derby and winner of the Triple Crown in 1973, wore blue and white ( as vividly shown in the 2010 Disney movie ) because his owner, Christopher Chenery, was a graduate and trustee of Washington and Lee.

In 2010, Lane starred in Secretariat, a Disney film about the relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and his owner, Penny Chenery, whom Lane portrayed.

The dark bay colt was the son of the great Triple Crown winner Secretariat out of the mare Ribbon.

His trainer, Laz Barrera, once said: " Affirmed is greater than Secretariat, or any Triple Crown winner, because only Affirmed had to face Alydar.
