Schweitzer found many New Testament references to apparently show that 1st-century Christians believed literally in the imminent fulfillment of the promise of the World's ending, within the lifetime of Jesus's original followers, He noted that in the gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks of a " tribulation ", with his coming in the clouds with great power and glory " ( St Mark ), and states when it will happen: " This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled " ( St Matthew, 24: 34 ) ( or, " have taken place " ( Luke 21: 32 )): " All these things shall come upon this generation " ( Matthew 23: 36 ).

According to the Gospel of Matthew, at the death of Jesus tombs were opened, and at his resurrection many saints who had died emerged from their tombs and went into " the holy city ", presumably New Jerusalem.

The New Testament verses typically referenced are Matthew 26: 30 ; Acts 16: 25 ; Romans 15: 9 ; 1 Corinthians 14: 15 ; Ephesians 5: 19 ; Colossians 3: 16 ; Hebrews 2: 12, 13: 15 ; James 5: 13, which reveal a command for all Christians to sing.

Simple accounting is mentioned in the Christian Bible ( New Testament ) in the Book of Matthew, in the Parable of the Talents.

The Book of Chronicles is alluded to, though not directly quoted, in the New Testament ( Hebrews 5: 4 ; Matthew 12: 42 ; 23: 35 ; Luke 1: 5 ; 11: 31, 51 ).

Criticism of Christianity and Christians goes back to the Apostolic age, with the New Testament recording friction between the followers of Jesus and the Pharisees and scribes ( e. g. Mark 7: 1-23 and Matthew 15: 1-20 ).

Originally cultivated in Iran and Mediterranean region, cumin is mentioned in the Bible in both the Old Testament ( Isaiah 28: 27 ) and the New Testament ( Matthew 23: 23 ).

The Gospel According to Matthew (, to euangelion kata Matthaion ) ( Gospel of Matthew or simply Matthew ) is one of the four canonical gospels, one of the three synoptic gospels, and the first book of the New Testament.

In the earliest surviving gospel collection, Papyrus 45 of the 3rd century, it is placed second in the order Matthew, John, Luke and Mark, an order which is also found in other very early New Testament manuscripts.

The 350th anniversary of the King James Bible is being celebrated simultaneously with the publishing today of the New Testament, the first part of the New English Bible, undertaken as a new translation of the Scriptures into contemporary English.

At a recent meeting of the Women's Association of the Trumbull Ave. United Presbyterian Church, considerable use was made of material from The Detroit News on the King James version of the New Testament versus the New English Bible.

F. L. Lucas's article in SR's April 1 issue seemed to be a very fair and objective analysis of the New English Bible.

At one time I became disturbed in the faith in which I had grown up by the apparent inroads being made upon both Old and New Testaments by a `` Higher Criticism '' of the Bible, to refute which I felt the need of a better knowledge of Hebrew and of archaeology, for it seemed to me that to pull out some of the props of our faith was to weaken the entire structure.
