# According to Rabbi Jose b. Hanina, each of the Patriarchs instituted one prayer: Abraham the morning, Isaac the afternoon and Jacob the evening prayers.

Isaac ben Jacob Alfasi ha-Cohen ( 1013-1103 ) ( Hebrew: ר ' יצחק אלפסי )-also known as the Alfasi or by his Hebrew acronym Rif ( Rabbi Isaac al-Fasi ), was a Talmudist and posek ( decider in matters of halakha-Jewish law ).

When Alfasi was himself on the point of death, he recommended as his successor in the Lucena rabbinate, not his own son, but his pupil Rabbi Joseph ibn Migash.

The Masorti movement did not establish a presence in the United Kingdom until much later and came about largely because of a series of incidents known colletively as the " Jacobs affair ": Rabbi Louis Jacobs, a leading scholar of Anglo Jewry, joined the faculty of the Jews College, leaving his post as Rabbi of the New West End Synagogue, under the impression that he would eventually be made principal.
