All of these would at one time or the other rule Wallachia, with Mircea II and Vlad Ţepeş both being able military commanders ( the latter would eventually become one of the most notorious leaders in history, and the inspiration for the novel Dracula by Bram Stoker ).
On his way home, Vlad II Dracul of Wallachia imprisoned Hunyadi ; only the threats of the palatine of Hungary brought the Wallachian ruler, theoretically an ally of Hunyadi against the Ottomans, to release him.
The response was a massive invasion led by Mehmed II who drove Vlad III from the throne and replaced him with his brother, Radu III the Fair ( 1462 – 1475 ).
They were both sons of Vlad II Dracul ( Dracul: the dragon ) and his wife, Princess Cneajna of Moldavia.
In addition to Vlad Ţepeş, Radu also had two older half-brothers, Mircea II and Vlad Călugărul, both of whom would also briefly rule Wallachia.

Vlad Dracul, the ruler of Wallachia, the father of the notorious Vlad Dracula, was imprisoned here, as he had fallen into disgrace with Hunyadi, not providing the help promised.
The Wallachian prince Vlad Dracul ( father of Vlad the Impaler ( Dracula ), who lived in exile in the town, let coins to be minted in the city ( otherwise coinage was the monopoly of the Hungarian kings in the Kingdom of Hungary ) and issued the first document listing the city's Romanian name, Sighişoara.

Vlad II received the surname Dracul in 1431, after being inducted into the Order of the Dragon, founded in 1408 by the King Sigismund of Hungary ( the later Holy Roman Emperor ), as part of a design to gain political favor from the Catholic Church and to aid in protecting Wallachia against the Ottoman Empire.
Vlad II Dracul was a member of the House of Drăculeşti lineage, and son of Mircea cel Bătrân, and was known to have murdered members of the rival princely House of Dăneşti, a not-so-distant relation to his own father's House of Basarab, and gained power in Wallachia, upon returning from exile in Transylvania in 1436.
