Article 16 of Gauss ' Disquisitiones Arithmeticae is an early modern statement and proof employing modular arithmetic.

The most relevant articles are Articles 1, 2, 3, and the first paragraph of Article 16.

Article 16 requires states to recognize everyone as a person before the law.

In January 1947 the United Nations Security Council approved Resolution 16 under Article 24 of its charter calling for the creation of a free state in Trieste and the region surrounding it.

The Repertory on Article 24 says: " The question whether Article 24 confers general powers on the Security Council ceased to be a subject of discussion following the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice rendered on 21 June 1971 in connection with the question of Namibia ( ICJ Reports, 1971, page 16 )".

Article 16 of the Constitution of France allows the President of the Republic to exercise exceptional powers in case of a national emergency.

Article 16 rule has only been exercised once, in 1961, during a crisis related to the Algerian War in which Charles de Gaulle needed those emergency powers to foil a military plot to take over the government.

In 1962, the Council of State ruled itself incompetent to judge measures of a legislative nature issued by the President under Article 16.

In his book, Le Coup d ' État permanent ( The Permanent Coup ), François Mitterrand criticized Article 16 for allowing an ambitious politician the opportunity to become a dictator.

* Article 16 mandates that parties to the conflict should record the identity of the dead and wounded, and transmit this information to the opposing party.

* ( 16 July 2003 )-Regina Ip resigned her position as Secretary for Security citing " personal reasons ", although political commentators attributed the resignation to the protests over the Article 23 legislation.

Article 6, entry into force

In a situation, when he has justification to assume, that a given person committed or is attempting to commit an act regulated by the convention, he can apply towards that person “ reasonable measures ” including restraint, under a condition that they do not break the rules enumerated in Article 6, paragraph 1 of the Tokyo Convention.

Indeed, the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in Article 6 requires these features in the legal systems of its signatory states.

" National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans ( NBSAPs ) are the principal instruments for implementing the Convention at the national level ( Article 6 ).

The Belgic Confession, used in Reformed churches, devotes a section ( Article 6 ) to " The difference between the canonical and apocryphal books " and asserts that " All which the Church may read and take instruction from, so far as they agree with the canonical books ; but they are far from having such power and efficacy as that we may from their testimony confirm any point of faith or of the Christian religion ; much less to detract from the authority of the other sacred books.

Article 6 provides a detailed right to a fair trial, including the right to a public hearing before an independent and impartial tribunal within reasonable time, the presumption of innocence, and other minimum rights for those charged with a criminal offence ( adequate time and facilities to prepare their defence, access to legal representation, right to examine witnesses against them or have them examined, right to the free assistance of an interpreter ).

Under the " independent tribunal " requirement, the Court has ruled that military judges in Turkish state security courts are incompatible with Article 6.

Another significant set of violations concerns the " confrontation clause " of Article 6 ( i. e. the right to examine witnesses or have them examined ).

In this respect, problems of compliance with Article 6 may arise when national laws allow the use in evidence of the testimonies of absent, anonymous and vulnerable witnesses.

Article 6 relates to the acquisition of nationality.
