Similar to the British system, Article One of the United States Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power of impeachment and the Senate the sole power to try impeachments.

According to Article I of the " Rehat Maryada " ( the Sikh code of conduct and conventions ), a Sikh is defined as " any human being who faithfully believes in One Immortal Being ; ten Gurus, from Guru Nanak Dev to Sri Guru Gobind Singh ; Sri Guru Granth Sahib ; the teachings of the ten Gurus and the baptism bequeathed by the tenth Guru ; and who does not owe allegiance to any other religion ".

Article One of the United States Constitution describes the powers of Congress, the legislative branch of the federal government.

The President is the military's commander-in-chief ; however Article One gives Congress and not the President the exclusive right to declare war.

Article One provides that the privilege may not be suspended save during times of rebellion or invasion, but it does not specify who may suspend the privilege.

Pursuant to a parallel clause in Article One, Section Eight, such authority is exclusive: for example, the Supreme Court has held that states may not tax such federal property.

One of the arguments the Federalists gave against the addition of a Bill of Rights, during the debates about ratification of the Constitution, was that a listing of rights could problematically enlarge the powers specified in Article One, Section 8 of the new Constitution by implication.

" Likewise, James Madison explained to Thomas Jefferson, " I conceive that in a certain degree ... the rights in question are reserved by the manner in which the federal powers are granted " by Article One, Section 8 of the Constitution.

The United States Constitution defines ( to a basic extent ) how federal elections are held, in Article One and Article Two and various amendments.

One important constitutional principle which is stated in Article 8 of the Legislation Law of the People's Republic of China is that an action can become a crime only as a consequence of a law passed by the full NPC and that other organs of the Chinese government do not have the power to criminalize activity.

This ruling has not been overturned, however, in modern times, similar civil rights legislation has been upheld under Congress's power to regulate interstate commerce under Article One, Section 8 of the Constitution.

Since 1801, most of the United States Constitution has not applied to the District, because of Congress's " exclusive " interpretation ( Rights Supporters say " unchecked and unbalanced ", but a neutral reporter might say " without Checks and Balances ") of Article One, Section 8, Clause 17.

Article 10 provides the right to freedom of expression, subject to certain restrictions that are " in accordance with law " and " necessary in a democratic society ".

Article 12 provides a right for women and men of marriageable age to marry and establish a family.

Article 13 provides for the right for an effective remedy before national authorities for violations of rights under the Convention.

Article 5 provides that no discrimination shall exist in a state's internal nationality law on the grounds of " sex, religion, race, colour or national or ethnic origin ".

Article 8 provides nationals with the right to renounce their nationality, providing they do not thereby become stateless.

Article 2 of the Constitution of Japan, promulgated in 1947 by influence of the U. S. occupation administration and still in force, provides that " The Imperial Throne shall be dynastic and succeeded to in accordance with the Imperial Household Law passed by the Diet.
